Some advice for maternity tops

I have noticed that a lot of the maternity tops are extremely low cut. I am not sure why clothing companies feel that a pregnant woman wants to show off her breasts, but oh well!

Anyway, I know a lot of people have been buying maternity or regular tanks to go under their shirts. Here is a piece of advice I got from a friend who just had a baby.

She told me that she started wearing sphaghetti strap sports bras under her tops. She would wear her regular bra, a sports bra about 1-2 sizes too big and then the shirt. She said the sports bra came up high enough to cover the booby cleavage, but it didn't make her any warmed by covering the whole belly. Also, she said they were great for after baby was born and her breasts needed a little extra breathing room due to engorgement and just general milk growth.

I went out and bought some sports bras, and they are awesome! Hope this helps some of yall! Have a good weekend!

  • Nice idea.  I've been wearing the camis, but this is a good alternative

  • That is a great idea! When I first started reading, I was wondering why she didn't wear tanks underneath. I forgot how how I get with the extra layers! Thanks for the good advice. I'm so happy I'll be pregnant mainly during the colder months, I don't know If I could make it through a summer pregnancy very well. Even already the heat bothers me.

  • I've been living out of the Champion spaghetti sports bras since I got BFP, they're the only thing I can seem to tolerate on my bewbs
  • great idea! Though the tops I've bought don't have that problem.
  • That is a really good idea. Sometimes it annoys me to wear so many layers (especially if they stick together). I'll keep that in mind.

  • I've been living in camis myself, but that sounds even more comfortable.  Yeah, it's ridiculous that maternity wear hasn't figured out the whole boobs get bigger thing.  Mine barely fit in XL, but the rest of me is just starting to get in to L!
  • I do the sports bra thing too, mainly b/c i never could stand to have a bunch of layers on my stomach!  I get the ones from walmart that are like 3 for $10, and i have them in every color- it works great!

  • It's also cheap to buy men's wife beaters instead of women's tanks.  You can embellish them as much as you want but your can't beat $1-$2 each.  Also they are longer than most tanks and stretchy so they will grow with you.  I love mine.

  • I've never had a boob crack to show so I'm enjoying this!
  • I hate having too many layers on my stomach because it makes me feel like my shirt clings to all the wrong places.  I have been wearing my BeBand over my bra instead of a cami somedays.
