When to Introduce Cow's Milk?

I have heard conflicting things about what time to introduce cow's milk?  My daughter was born at 32.5 weeks and is currently on a generic like Enfamil with Lipil.  Should I just wait until her one year appt. with the pediatrician to check with her?  TIA

Re: When to Introduce Cow's Milk?

  • We started at a year actual age.  His pedi said it was fine and he hated formula so much.  I know some doctors recommend waiting.  DS did fine with the milk though.

  • Our pedi gave us the ok to switch DD at her 1 year check up (9 months adjusted).  Normally she would have a preemie wait a little bit longer - closer to their 1 year adjusted age, but it was obvious that Aubrey needed the switch and didn't show signs of any allergies.  It's so nice to not be buying formula anymore!  We did start giving Aubrey a multi-vitamin when we made the switch to make up for what she wasn't getting with her formula anymore.
  • My DS got the ok to start at 1 year actual. It was a happy day:) I hate formula: the way it smells, the cost, etc. Milk is easier, cheaper, less smelly!!
  • We were told 1 year adjusted and when we do switch from breastmilk we will do soy instead of cow's because of allergy history.
  • 1 year actual, but we waited until after her 1 year checkup since we still had formula to use up.
  • i don't think i'll ever give cow's milk to my daughter- as much as i can help it anyway...

(i'm sure that's not the most practical answer. but the research they're doing now is pretty interesting on the subject.)
