I love classic names. DDs is Matilda, which I adore! Others we considered were Ruby, Vera, Nora, Stella, Scarlett. I love Henry, James and Finn for a boy. We would have used Elliott though.
Really, except Rose, I think those are all ghastly.
I think names from the early part of the 20th century are generally awful. When I go back to old fashioned, I generally go back to the classical period names popular during the 1820's. But I'm a history buff.
Therefore, I gravitate to Drusilla, Daphne, Victoria, Emmeline, Cora, Ophelia, Julia, ...
I also have a tendency to run through the British Royal Family in the 1800s, which gives me things like Charlotte, Caroline, Sophia, Adelaide, May, Alexandra, Alice, Victoria, Helena, Louise, Irene, Patricia, Melita, Eugenia, etc.
Re: Favorite old timer name?
I couldn't name my child this, but I think Otis is the cutest old man name.
I really like a lot of old-fashioned names, but one of my favorites for a girl is Harriet. No one else seems to like that one though.
For boys, I think my favorite is Henry (although I don't know if it qualifies as old-fashioned anymore. I know quite a few now.)
Ada, Ruth, Ruby, May
Owen, Wyatt, Charlie, Henry -Although these have made a huge come back.
Violet, Rose, Hazel.
Charles for a boy.
Alice, Cora, Frances, Clara
Henry, Theodore
Mable, Matilda, Evelyn, Eleanor, Harriet, Hazel, Helena
Gary, Henry, George, Ralph, Oscar, Oliver?
(read it. you know you want to.)
