in a month! Bringing my total weight gain to 17 pounds! My OB said to exercise more, eat less carbs, less sugar, more water and more whole grains. Please share your healthy snack, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and mmmmmm dessert ideas! I love dessert!
You know those yogurt commercials......the one where the DH is talkin about all the yummy flavors like "Apple turnover" and "vanilla creme pie" etc... it's true.... they are a wonderfully healthy sweet dessert type snack! I can't live with out my yogurt.
Raisen bread is another fav, but that's still carbs. A piece of fruit and string cheese is yummy.
Just stick to 5-6 smaller meals. I too have gained about 17 lbs but it's been since week 8. But 17 lbs is 17 lbs. Slow and steady weight gain is key.
It's pretty plain and simple......stay away from junk and fast food. Small portions. You'll be fine And yes lots and lots of water!

I eat carrots, apples, low fat yogurt. I actually freeze yogurt and eat it as ice cream. I heard the whips kind is the best. I use what ever is on sale; it is not as good as ice cream but healthier. I also walk 4-5 1/2 hours a week and go to the Y 2 times a week. I drink tons of water too. I really don't drink anything else except once in a while.
I'm currently on the GD diet so instead of gaining, I have lost 30 lbs since about 8 weeks along. The main thing with the diet is lots of whole grains and fiber with limited carbs and sugar intake. I can tell you for dessert either sugar free popcicles or Jello sugar free pudding is AMAZING! You can eat regular meals with this diet, you just have to limit your carb intake-I'm on a 2000 calorie/day diet. I would try cutting out some sugar or trying different sugar free things and having smaller meals with fewer carbs. That along with exercise should help!! Good Luck!
i'm -18 pounds... i doubt its due only to my healthy eating lol...
but i stay away from desserts, ice cream, cookies, candy, etc. mainly because i don't crave it.
i've been eating tons of fruit and raw veggies and fresh squeezed juices. i was also a vegetarian before coming pregnant so i don't eat fatty meats. mainly turkey.
i do load up on proteins but mainly for breakfast. like i like eggs and bacon. or i LOVE butterbeans right now. lunch is normally leftovers from dinner. i started incorporating the carnation instant breakfasts for more vitamin d and calcium.
I've LOST 22 lbs. but I'm almost positive it's due to my change in diet and habits, and m/s. I eat a ton of veggies and fruit. For a snack I'll eat and apple with peanut butter, or a handful of carrots, whatever I'm craving that day. I also can't eat as much in one sitting, but eat smaller meals during the day.
breakfast: egg whites (or if you have to have some yolk, 1/2 egg whites, 1/2 eggs) scramble with any veggies (onions, mushrooms, peppers, etc. eggs are very filling. eat with a piece of whole wheat toast.
lunch: veggie sticks with ranch (or any) dressing, a low-fat soup (chicken noodle, black bean, vegetable)
dinner: grilled chicken breast or fish, brown rice, and steamed veggies and a green salad
I could live off of almonds and bananas for breakfast right now. Too many almonds in though does not feel good coming out. I think most homemade dinners are pretty nutritional. I use a lot of fresh produce and try to cut the box stuff out to the best extent possible. Before getting pregnant, I lived by the Eat This, Not That book. It has good ideas for getting what you want, but a healthier version.
I did the same thing at my last appointment. 9 pounds in 4 weeks. The nurse gave me The Look, but OB said it was fine. I had only gained 2 in the previous 16 weeks.
But the 9 pounds defintiely lit a fire under my butt to get moving again! So I've been walking a lot and replacing some of the junk (poptarts, oreos, ice cream...oops!) with fruit. Hopefully my weight will be a little more stable for the next couple of appointments.
I had a similar experience in my first pregnancy. I gained 12 in a month and freaked completely! My best advice is to get all the junk out. If it's in the house it's much more tempting to eat it. For sweet cravings I love Fat Free Jello pudding cups and baked apples (just bake in the oven with a little water in the bottom of the pan and sprinkle them with a little cinnamon and sugar). Baked chips and salsa has become my absolute favorite go to snack. That and cheese and crackers. Mmmm...now I'm getting hungry again!
