convertible car seats

Just seeing pros and cons from those of you that have purchased them...

I have a 2008 Odyssey and we need to get convertible seats soon!  The boys aren't near the weight limit of their infant seats, but are close to the height limit.

I am not a small gal, but I can squeeze between the car seats on long trips if the boys get cranky.

I have heard nothing but rave reviews, for the most part, about the Britax car seats.  Any thoughts on how they would fit in the 2nd row of the van?  Would there be enough room to squeeze a person in the middle or am I just screwed?  If you don't like the Britax, what car seat do you have?

Thanks!!

Re: convertible car seats

  • We have an expedition. We sit them on each end and I can easily go in the middle (I'm not a small girl). I have the Britax Decathlons.

  • We have a radian 65 (or 85, I can never remember the #1). Love at and that's what we're aboutt o get Liam too. It's more narrow, and you can fit 3 across, or fit a 3rd person in the back if you have 2 carseats. It has great safety ratings, and is really heavy, which makes it seem extra safe to me. It's easy to move between cars as well.
  • We are getting the Britax Decathlon.  It has EPS foam all the way up the sides for added side impact protection.  We thought about the Advocate CS, but it had the "airbags" instead of the foam.  We also had Sunshine Kids Radian XT/65 and the Recaro Como G2 on our list, in that order.

  • I have a marathon in my ford escape & I definitely think there would be room for a person to squeeze between two in the backseat.

  • We got the Britax Boulevard CS and I drive a Honda Accord.  I think that if we were to have two carseats in there you could fit a person (not for a long time though).  They are big, but more tall than anything.  We just switched DS to his convertible seat on Labor day and he loves it.
  • we have a suburban, so a person could definitely sit between our marathons or a combo of our Boulevard and marathon. it probably wouldn't be comfortable for a long drive, but i would imagine you could sit a person between them in your van. i think our marathons are "slimmer" than the boulevard.
