3rd Trimester

Should I be worried??

So we are having a c-section next week and my MIL calls my DH yesterday to tell him that our niece has the chicken pox. I wasn't too concerned about it because my SIL and niece aren't coming up here when he is born. Well I talk to MIL today and she tells me she is keeping her while she is sick. I know she can't get chicken pox again but I know she can get shingles from it. I am concerned about her being around LO if she has been exposed to something. Should I be concerned or am I just being paranoid?

Re: Should I be worried??

  • IMO, you are NOT being paranoid.  Do some research, check with your doctor, but be proactive and I don't think you want your LO exposed to the virus, AT ALL!!!

  • I would probably give my pediatrician a call and ask their opinion.
  • Definitely get your doctor's opinion. Wouldn't want to chance anything and your MIL might change her mind about watching your niece while she's sick if it means she might not to get to see the baby right away.

I am going to check with my doctor. My MIL obviously sees nothing wrong with being around sick people. She went and saw her when my SIL called and said she was throwing up and having diarrhea. When she got over there she saw the bumps and told her she thought it was chicken pox. I can't believe she went over there not knowing what she had! She is frustrating me! I am not going to put my LO at risk.
