We aren't scared of monsters yet, but I am sure it is coming. Avery is scared of bugs and lizards.
We shall see what Halloween brings. I have already told K that I don't care if it is his birthday party, he isn't being scary because there will be little kids there.
I think it's fairly common as they get closer to 3 to start being scared of monsters in their closets and so forth because their imagination is starting to develop at that point.
Yep. Orion's current fear is the Cookie Monster of all things. Just this morning he looked at me all frightened and said the Cookie Monster was in the room. DH usually makes a big display of sternly talking to the cookie monster and putting him in time out. That seems to alleviate his fear.
DD will be 2 very soon and is totally scared of men (unless she knows them very, very well). I'm not sure if it's a phase b/c we're not out of it yet ... but my guess is that it probably is.
My BFF went through it when both of her kids were that age. She kept a bottle of "BOO" juice (AKA water in squirt bottle with a nifty new label) in their rooms. Every night she'd go through and spray the room to keep whatever was scaring them away. Genius, I say!
Someone else we know and love is going through this. He identifies things as scary all the time now.
At Disney, we had to leave the Tiki room because he nearly left his skin. The Haunted Mansion was a big mistake (I know, seems obvious but it is a long story).
You know, thinking back, Sam never did have a scared-of-everything phase. The only thing he was afraid of was the dark, and I completely blame DH for that. He let him sleep with the light on to read himself to sleep a couple of times, and after that he refused to sleep without his bedside lamp on.
Tangent...
When we moved out of the house, I was finally able to get him to sleep with the light off, with the hallway light on and the door cracked. Then the other night I noticed a lot of light coming from Sam's room--DH had let him keep the light on AGAIN, because once again, Sam said he wanted to read himself to sleep. I nipped that in the bud. He's got a sort of "foyer" to his room where there's a light that I'll keep on. But DH had left the overhead light on! Why does he think that's okay?
it's part of a natural development! he's realizing that things in life can be dangerous - it's all part of the flight or fight mechanism in all of us as humans!
Re: scared toddler?
Yep, it's a phase. And according to Dr. S comes around sometime between 2-3.
Kaitlyn's emerged as being scared of monster's in her room all of a sudden. She's also suddenly scared of lightning/thunder and the lawn mower.
