Parenting after a Loss

We're home! (brief birth story inside)

Hi everyone, this is my first chance to get online since we got home Tuesday (everyone else is napping).

We went in for our induction as planned on Saturday. Everything was going well, they got me up and running on the pitocin by 9:30 and it took effect fairly quickly. They broke my water around 3pm and by 3:45 I had gone from 3cm to 6cm so they expected things to move pretty damn quickly. But, they didn't. By shift change (7pm) it was clear he wasn't coming without a fight. I had made progress, but not enough to start pushing, so our day nurses went home disappointed (they swore he'd be delivered by 6:30). By 9 or so, we were pushing but making slow progress. He was face-up and a little crooked so he got hug up on my pubic bone. We spent the next two hours trying to get him unstuck. Around 11, my ob said "Heather, I could offer you help but I believe we'd fail even using the forceps and you'd end up with an emergency c-section. Right now, we're only making his head more of a cone." so she suggested the c-section b/c she believed we'd only end up with a distressed baby if we pressed on with the pushing. So we went for the c-section. Within 20 minutes of being brought into the OR (oddly enough the same OR where both my d&c's were performed) James made his arrival.

He was 8 pounds 2 ounces and 20.5 inches long. He had some hematomas on his head and face from the attempts to get him out vaginally and those caused some feeding woes but those resolved as soon as the swelling went down. I'm still in some pain, but it's way better than a day or so ago but I know it'll be some time before I can do everything I'd like to do. DH has been awesome and totally stepped in to fill whatever shoes I can't at the moment, he's even changing diapers regularly!

Welp, that's it from here, I have to run off to pump as James will be waking up wanting to be fed soon.
