My SIL drives me crazy.
Back story...My husband's brother got married a month after us (only knowing each other for 6 months, we had been together for 2 years), then got pregnant a month later. Just delivered cute baby boy back in June. I have nothing against them, but when discussing child care... etc., I told my SIL that we would probably get a nanny when we decided to have children, at which she replied "Oh, I would never want someone else to raise MY child." She's a few years younger than me, so I just chalked it up to different life experiences and whatever. Life goes on. I have been working at just being accepting and loving them. Until this...
We told DH's family this past weekend that we were expecting. Taking everyone off guard, of course. I am currently 12 weeks along. I have gained about 5 lbs. since we found out a month ago, and have a slight pudge in the front. Later that weekend, my MIL came to our house to see us and told me that her and my SIL had been discussing that I had looked like I had gained weight. AWESOME. Not that I don't mind the weight gain, I know it is neccessary, but seriously I don't want to hear that you were talking about my pudginess. I don't have the cute bump yet, and I'm not a fan of the pudge.
Anyways, just showing the lovely tact that my in-laws show.
Re: my SIL and my pudgeiness
Ugh. Just let it roll off your back the best you can. My FIL told me at 18 weeks that I couldn't possibly be showing at all- you don't show until at least 7 months. (?!??!?!?!?) so I'm just getting fat. Not pudgy, not 'you gained a little weight', but "you're getting fat and you won't get it off after the baby's here".
Sounds like the reaction from my MIL. When we told her (at 6 weeks) her response was, "Well I thought I saw a bump, but figured you were just gaining weight." DH spoke up and said it was impossible to see that I was pregnant and there was no bump yet!
Too funny, when my MIL says that kind of stuff, I just let it roll off my back! That or I tell the girls at lunch and we all get a good laugh! Either way, I don't let it get to me!
