It's short enough that I don't see us needing a nickname, but I'm slightly turned off by the idea of calling the kid "Scar." I also enjoy how my baby name book says it refers to a "woman of easy virtue."
First- Love it. I used to think it was pretty but had too much of a Gone with the Wind image. Now I think Scarlet Johanson has given it some modern beauty, while it's still not too popular. I would never think of Scar as a nn. I don't think that's an issue. I'm pretty sure the definition is referring more to a Scarlet Letter connotation, I think of it meaning deep rich red, and thus royalty.

Scarlett has always immediately brought to my mind the nickname Scar, which, in turn, reminds me of the evil uncle in "The Lion King".

I love it! I like the suggestion for Lettie as a nn if you must have one... but I don't think 'Scar' will be often said. How often do you call a Karen 'kare' or a Lisa 'Lees'. Not very often - it would only slip out if someone was in a rush.
I have always loved this name. Maybe it's because I associate it with Scarlett O'Hara who, to me, is a vivacious, clever, and charming woman and I think all of those traits are good ones to wish upon a child. As for this nickname Scar, I doubt anyone will really use that. I have a good friend named Helena and the only time people called her Hel was when they wanted to be annoying.
love it! beautiful! when friends call her fast they will say scar...but you will associate this with her, not an actual scar!
Ditto. My niece is Scarlett and we actually just call her Scarlett (::Shock, Gasp::) We've probably only called her Scar in a hurry before we can get her whole name out. Why does everyone need a nickname? However, we do call her Godzilla - lovingly of course.

I love Scarlett, and I think there is a great old-fashioned alternative for the nn dilemma.
"Letty". Or, "Lettie". I think Letty is an adorable name, and Scarlett has a grown up feel. Plus, you'd totally avoid the "Scar" part.
