I went garage saleing with my mother today and at one of the first sales we stopped at, there was an adorable Graco swing priced at $5. The swing has very new-looking blue padding on the seat itself and a mobile over the baby. It looked like it had maybe been used once or twice.
The reason it was $5 was because the motor on the side no longer worked since the batteries had corroded it. I thought I could purchase a new motor from Graco so I bought the swing for $3.
My mother and I kept garage saleling and came across another Graco swing later in the day. It was the exact same size, just a different color. This swing wasn't as new or cute but it actually worked and was also priced at $5. I bought it for $4 and ended up bringing home two swings!
Once I got them home, I switched out the motor between the two swings and I now have an adorable swing that works great and only cost $7!! Word to the wise: buy at garage sales!!
ETA: I reassembled the damaged swing, put it out by my curb with a "Free" sign on it and it was gone in under an hour. DH will be so proud!
Here's a picture of the swing I ended up with:">

Mourning the loss of Amarine Stella, born at 21 weeks, 6 days.
We will always love you, our little angel.
Nice! I thought about doing that, but when I got it home and unscrewed the cover of the motor, I wasn't sure if the motor itself or the battery mechanism wasn't working so it was just easier to switch it out!
Way to go!!
Recycling AND saving money. Yay!
