Older Preemies: Do you give a multi-vitamin?

We just switched my daughter to cow's milk at 1-year.  Does anyone give their baby a multi-vitamin now?  My pedi said there was no need, but I still think I'd feel better, knowing that cow's milk isn't fortified the way her formula was.

Thoughts?

  • Yes, we do PolyViSol (mixed in his morning bottle).
  • Yes - we give Matty TriVitamin Drops with Fluoride.
  • Yes, our pedi recommended it.  We give her the Target brand comparable to Poli-vi-sol.
  • No, we didn't need one. She gets enough nutrients from her diet. Her weight was fine so there was really no need. I think a multi-vitamin is a waste since many of the vitatmins and minerals are obtained through a properly maintained diet. They won't absorb and just pass through your system.

We used a vitamin supplement when she was little, but only for a short time frame when we were having issues with feeding. I knew she needed it then.

Now, she is a great eater of a wide variety of foods.

  • Poly-Vi-Sol...pedi recommended
  • We tried to do vitamin drops between 1 and 2 years old... it was hard because they tasted horrible!  Now she gets the gummy vitamins.

I didn't know they did vitamins with flouride!  I need to look into that, as we have well water.

  • I'm thinking about it, since the little man isn't a big fan of veggies.

  • our son was getting plyvivol before he left the NICU for the iron in it
  • Our kids eat amazingly well - they eat everything we eat. But one of them is a touch anemic so he's getting poly-vi-sol w/iron for the next couple of months.
  • no, mainly because I make sure she eats a balanced diet and she drinks pediasure :)
