Our now 32 weeker we just found out has a slightly elevated white blood cell count. the doctors say they will monitor him for signs of infection. Did your babies ever have this happen? Did it turn into an infection? Did your doctor put your baby on antibiotics? Today has been full of downs more than ups. First we found out he has a brain bleed, his kidneys are dilated, he's been having desats and bradys all throughout the day, and now this white blood cell elevation.
Re: elevated white blood cell count
it happened to Robbie once. I'm trying to remember why they had even checked it. Might have been another bloody diaper. We had several of those. Anyway, his WBCs were up, but the differential showed it was mostly eosonophils (not sure I'm spelling that right at all) which they're a little unsure of why. Sometimes it's associated with milk allergy, so we cut off cow dairy out of my diet.. Anyway, that's neither here nor there.
My point is that yes, he had an elevated level once and no, he didn't get sick. They checked it again a few days later and was fine again.

It certainly can mean that your LO is fighting off an infection. Whether it turns into anything just depends.
I know it's hard but try not to worry about it too much. The doctors are going to carefully watch and will jump in with medicine or anything else if need be.
