FYI CVS Minute Clinic

I work at a hospital as a consultant and they had requested that I get a TB test but wouldn't perform it so they told me to go to the CVS Minute Clinic which I did, while I was there I thought since the flu season seems to have already started here in NC that I would get the flu shot as well.  Well the Nurse Practitioner looked up the ingredients that went into this years flu shot and there is a med that has mercury in it, so she said that they were unable to give me a flu shot until after I had the baby.  No big deal I only "hopefully" have a couple weeks left.  But to everyone that still has a while to go.... if you plan on getting a flu shot, CVS won't give it to pregnant women.  And they also won't give the TB test to pregnant women either.  I called my MW and she is going to perform both next week at my appointment and says both are perfectly safe.

On a good note, the CVS Minute Clinic was super fast and very nice.

Re: FYI CVS Minute Clinic

  • Ok this is really scary because I just had a flu shot at the Minute Clinic at CVS last week.

Ooops!  I guess it's not every CVS!  I am sure you are fine, like I said I am getting it next week at appointment with my MW.

From everything I am reading, I think I am fine.  I never get a flu shot and was hesitant to get one but my OB recommended it so I figured I would do it.

  • You should still get a flu shot before giving birth.  LO can't get one until 6 months old, and since he/she will be born during flu season, it's best that you get one to pass on some of your immunity in utero.

ETA: dur.  I just read closer and see that you ARE getting one soon.  Still, I hope others aren't scared out of getting one from this post.  Your MW is right - they ARE perfectly safe.

  • I work at a CVS with a minute clinic and have already talked to one of the nurses about getting my flu shot. She said they are getting a preservative free one in soon that is safer for pregnant women, but she said there is nothing wrong with me getting a regular flu shot either.
