are you an organ donor?

i never understood why this was such a controversial topic.  i work with a guy that said he'd never be an organ donor.  his dad is a Dr and he said, 'my dad told me that once they've taken all they can take, what's left of you can fit in a zip lock bag.'  um, what do you care?  you're dead?

i'm totally an organ donor.  take everything once i'm gone!

Re: are you an organ donor?

  • YES.  I don't understand it either.  I know some people have religious reasons but for someone to just want to keep their organs is beyond me.

  • Absolutely. I have no use for it when I'm dead. Might as well give it to someone who can lead a full life after.?

  • Heck yeah! I love the thought of being able to save someone's life with the greatest gift of all.
  • Did you watch The Doctors this morning?? LOL!!

I am totally an organ donor and so is DH. They only take what they can use. You still have your skin and bones, so what does it matter? It's all going to rot away anyway!

I think it's selfish to want to keep your organs. You do not need your organs whether you believe in the afterlife or not. You will be helping someone live a long and happy life.If I can't be here, I would sure want to help someone else have a loved one with them that much longer! What a miracle!

  • I am not an organ donor listed on my driver's license, but my husband knows that if anything happens to donate whatever they can use.

  • Yes, absolutely. And I really dont care if all that's left of me would fit in a ziplock bag. I'll be dead and plan to be cremated. If they could give ever inch of my body to someone else who might benefit from it, then I'd be ok with that.
  • Absolutley. I've worked in dialysis since 1993, and have seen way too many people die waiting for kidneys. Unless you have some deeply-held religious objection (which I still think is a cop-out), then I think it's selfish and ignorant to want to cling to organs YOU NO LONGER NEED once you're dead.

Though, as strongly as I feel about this, I can't donate my eyes. I have sucky vision, but mostly, it's because when I was in 7th grade, a friend riding her bike was hit and killed by a drunk driver. Her family donated her organs, including her gorgeous green/blue eyes. I will spare everyone the details, but seeing her in her coffin permanently scarred me, and I can't do the eyes.

  • Absofrickenlutely. My BIL is the blessed recipient of a liver that he received last september. it saved his life. he was in end stage liver failure as a result of liver cancer at only 27.  he's totally healthy now and i am so appreciative to the family of the donor who made the choice to donate.

  • Agreed.  I am 100% an organ donor and will donate my body to science if my organs aren't usable for whatever reason.

Apparently a lot of people are anti-science donation because of modesty issues - they don't want people seeing their boobs after they are dead. Seriously?

This is completely baffling to me.

Nope for religious reasons, nor do I believe in cremation or tattooing your body.

  • Absolutely I am. Since the day I turned 16 and got my driver's license.
