I just called Triwest and it *sounds* like I could have a covered HB!!!! I'm not sure if they arent contracted or whatever how it would work... maybe i would have to front it and then get reimbursed?
I think that you pay for it upfront and then they'll reimburse you for part of it. My doula (a military dep.) is planning a hb for herself and that's what I heard from her.
YES!! Not me personally, but a friend down here in KW had a home birth 18 months ago on Tricare. Another pg mama I know down here is trying desperately to find a MW to have a home birth with no luck, she looked into birthing centers and from what she has been told they will not cover a birthing center.... Odd.
hmmm-Standard covers 100% of OB/GYN (or MW in her case) services-DH was still so low on the totem pole i would have been able to switch back immediately had i wanted to. i'm actually so happy with my Standard coverage now that i'm sticking with it.
maybe she hasn't found anyone with the licensing/standards/registration that Tricare requires and that is the problem? we had DD at a free-standing birth center and it was covered completely. the only thing we were supposed to pay out of pocket for was the NB hearing screening, but we could have had it done at the local MTF. we never ended up doing though...
Wait, Standard covers 100% for you? I was told I'd have the 2-4 days of hospital coverage, plus an additional 20% of whatever Standard won't cover for everything. Which is the hospital I'll be going to which is considered out of network even though the OB practice is in network.....
