I had my little boy...he went to the nursery for the first time...he came back with a paci...not even 6 hours old and he's a great breastfeeder as well. He loves his paci and I do too!
I voted no, but that's b/c my child will NOT take one!! Trust me, I've tried every paci out there (okay technically just the MAM, Nuk and Soothies) and she wants nothing to do with them. In the first couple of weeks I was cursing her personal decision to shun the paci, but luckily she really doesn't seem to need it much now. I'm sure there will be a time where I'll be wishing she would, though! (like when she's 18 and cursing me out for not letting her have the car....I'll definitely want to be shoving something into her mouth then!).
DD doesn't like it. She never has and that's fine with me. I'm not going to push it. My mother thinks this is the worst thing ever and that I must force her to take it.

Oh yes!! And FWIW my aunt is a internationally board certified lactation consultant who helped me with BF since the first latch and she says that if you need to use a paci or a pumped bottle for your sanity, there is nothing wrong with that. My DD had a paci at 8 hours old and we are still BF with no problem...... it soothes her and me, so I guess I am lazy too

I don't, but only b/c she won't take it. I have tried a couple times b/c she cries like she's hungry when she only wants to suck on something. She's a great breast feeder, so I'm not really worried about nipple confusion.
Yes, yes, and yes. The nurses described DS as "very oral." haha. He loves it and so do we. He soothes himself to sleep with it and it helps keep him happy when he's awake. LOVE IT.
Dude. She came out with a blister on her hand from sucking on it so much in utero. The kid likes to suck and gets po'd when she's sucking on my nipple and getting milk when she doesn't want it.
I guess I could be less 'lazy' and do something so that she doesn't get any milk out and just sucks on my nipple, because that seems like the 'right' thing to do
Re: POLL do you use a pacifier?
Yes, and I wish he would take it more! (He sucks it to sleep at night, but spits it out by day)
Also, over the past few weeks he's really been enjoying his thumb. And I'm encouraging it. Because thumbs can't get lost!
I guess I'm lazy.

Absofreakinglutely.
DS hasn't been without a pacifier since he was 2 days old, and he's breastfed like champ from the get go.
He's a high maintenance kid and is able to soothe himself really well with one.
He'll probably be going to kindergarden with one. LOL
