Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Can't decide if I should get rid of the bumper.

DS pushes it down until it crumples so he can see out of his crib when he wakes up.  It's getting harder to make the bumper go back upright when I pull him out of his crib!  But he sleeps with his head against the side of the crib and I'd hate for him to keep bumping his head and/or back as he rolls around in his sleep.

ahhh what to do what to do!

When did you get rid of the bumper and why? or - Why do you still have your bumper?

Re: Can't decide if I should get rid of the bumper.

  • We have a breathable bumper and just recently I've noticed her kicking it and smashing down the side with her feet and hands.  She seems to love to play with it now.  She wouldn't be able to step on it because it isn't that stable/fat.  But I will keep it in because otherwise she gets her legs/arms stuck!

  • We have one of those mesh "breathable" bumpers from BRU. It serves its purpose pretty well. It mashes down really small (since it's just mesh, no fluff) if he wants to mash it or try to step on it.... but he can't stick his limbs through the crib slats. I got it after I stuck him in his crib to play with his crib toys while I ran to the bathroom and he got his leg stuck. Although I guess it wouldn't keep him from knocking his head -- it's not padded at all.
  • We've never used a bumper. When Jude started rolling around the crib more, he woke himself up a couple times bumping his head, but never any bruises and he soon figured out how to stop bumping his head. Very rarely (3 times total I believe) he gets his foot or calf caught in the slat and cries out for help.
  • I still have hers in her crib but she does the same thing pulling the sides down to see out in the morning. i was wondering the same if i should remove or not? interested to see other responses
  • we still use our regular bumper
