2nd year of Synagis...WHO got it?

and do you know why????  Please share if so.

WE got it last year, my girls are 30 weekers and have just been diagnosed with asthma. My pedi is hoping (since the Academy of Pediatrics changed their recommendations), that my girls will get a few shots this year.

Re: 2nd year of Synagis...WHO got it?

  • We were originally told we would be guaranteed shots for year 2 because DD was a 28 weeker and originally had a CLD and RDS diagnosis in the NICU (had vent and plenty of CPAP time).  Year 2 came around and we were denied.  We tried to appeal the denial, but the appeal failed.  I'm not sure WHO actually got it in year 2 last year.

  • Both of my kiddos got Synagis the 2nd year.

My son was a 31 weeker but weighed less than 2 lbs at birth.   He got sick a lot his first winter so that's why he received it for a second year.

My daughter was a 24 weeker who is oxygen dependent so she received it her second winter as well.

  • Our Pedi has told us we won't get it this year.

  • We asked our pedi and he said he couldn't even prescribe it b/c she exceeds the weight limitations on it...she currently weighs 22 pounds.
  • We got it but I am not sure how ds qualified. It upset me to see so many babies on this board last year get denied.
  • I just remembered ds got bronchiolitis, probably caused by RSV, his first winter. Maybe that is why he was approved for the second year.
  • We supposedly qualify for it again this year.  I am wondering if Logan will exceed the weight limitations, like mhop my kiddo is nearing 22 lbs.  Hmmm??  We'll see what the insurance company has to say!

  • We're in the process of finding out.  Being we have no choice but to travel with DD to a children's hospital 8 hours away several times this winter, we think she should qualify.  ::fingers crossed::
  • we were supposed to have it for 2 years under the old AAP guidelines, but since they changed them, probably not. our ped is going to give it a girl scout try to hopefully get them again, but i'm not holding my breath. :(
  • Olivia was over 22 pounds when she got it the 2nd season.  In January she was 22 pounds 11 ounces.  They did have to give two shots because anything over 1ml must be given as two doses (one in each leg).
