Do you buy ahead on clearance for next year?

I'm too chicken to buy stuff now on clearance in a bigger size for next year. I'm afraid she won't be in that size at the right time, and I'll have wasted money and storage space on stuff she'll never wear.

If you do buy ahead, does that ever happen, or have you been lucky?

YES! We bought ahead. Considering the LO isn't even here yet Stick out tongue We have a wardrobe for him through 9months! Of course, we also don't have the huge weather changes down here in TX like we did in PA. We probably wouldn't have bought so much and so far out if we really had seasons. most of the stuff we bought was for warm weather. Plus we figure, we can always put a jacket or sweater or the like on him if it's a little chillier. We only really bought cold weather clothes for the few newborn stuff we picked and a few for 0-3 months since by March...even February.. it may be warm enough for him to wear shorts or at least short sleeves with another layer.

To me, you can always layer warmer stuff on top of cooler stuff.

Absolutely! Last summer he was in 6 and 9 month stuff, so I bought 18 and 24 month stuff for this summer. There was only one shirt he couldn't wear, that I was dumb because it was OshKosh, which runs small, and I bought an 18 month shirt which was way too small. I already have all his stuff for next summer too. I didn't realize how much I had until I started going through things.

His winter things are in good shape, including two winter jackets. I just need a few more fall things.

And I buy the things so cheaply that I can always give them away or resell them for more than I paid!

I do buy ahead. I got her a couple of outfits for next summer at BRU last week. She's pretty much true to size so I figure I'll be ok.

No way, at least not yet. He's outgrown much of his 0-3 month stuff already (never wore a few of the onesies), and I feel like I don't yet have a "feel" for how sizes run in different brands. I have no idea where he'll be in another few months or a year, so unless and until his growth slows or the pedi can help us figure out how he'll grow, I'm buying things as we need them.

That's why I love Ross, Marshalls & Burlington. Oh, and Costco has some Carters stuff for way cheaper than retail.

I probably wouldn't because babies grow at all sorts of different levels. So I could buy 12 month clothing..but he could be in 18 months!

I will echo what the last two posters said about growth rates. We got a lot of gifts that were purchased ahead that ne never wore. Like he was 9 months in November and we got some nice cold weather clothes in 9 months, but he grew so fast he was wearing 9 months in July. However, I'd say after 6 months you have a pretty good feel for your own baby's growth rate. And they still typically grow fast enough the first year that they wear several different sizes over the course of a season. Adam has two full winter wardrobes (12 and 18 months) and two full summer wardrobes (18 and 24). I think we're finally slowing down now, thankfully!

I've bought basics - jeans, onesies, short sleeves - pieces that can be layered or transitioned through seasons.

For my son, it seems to be ok to buy shirts. But bottoms (pants and shorts) seem to vary too much. And the brands really vary too. So I wouldn't buy from a brand that I wasn't used to buying.
