1st Trimester

Non-Alcoholic Beer question..

Are we allowed to have that? I only ask bc the next couple of weekends we have events where I would definitely be drinking and I don't want to tell people yet...so was thinking of just pouring O'Douls into a cup or use a koozie or something. I'd go the fake mixed drink route, but I'm 99% a beer/wine girl so it'd be way too obvious, and I'd really rather avoid the questioning if I could.

I'd ask the Dr. but don't go until the 29th...anyone have any clue?

  • It's non-alcoholic.  Why wouldn''t it be ok?

  • I've heard that non-alcoholic beer does have some alcohol in it. ?I'm not sure how much, but until 2nd tri I would stay away from it. ?I have found that pomegranate juice (the real stuff, like POM) looks just like red wine in a glass, and it's not super sweet, so it doesn't really smell so fruit-juicy. ?Just a thought.

  • O'Douls and other non-alcoholic beers actually contain a tiny amount of alcohol.

Could you get away with holding a cup of real beer or wine and pouring some out when no one's looking?

  • There's a little alcohol in non-alcoholic beer.  How much, I don't know, but it is there.  My main reason for not drinking it is that it's gross, though (and I love beer).

  • Most Beer is 5.0% alcohol. O'Dhouls is 0.4%. I actually had to learn that for bartending... your decision is yours... however as an FYI... it does still contain alcohol! :)

  • This trick totally worked...go in the bathroom, dump out your beer, fill it up with water. Bring spring water or just use the tap. No one caught on! Just make sure you "finish" a beer once in a while.

Okay, I definitely don't think you need to worry if it's 0.4% alcohol?  My ex boyfriend had pancreatitis and drank NA beer all the time b/c he couldn't have alcohol...  I am sure he wouldn't have done so if the tiny amt of alcohol content would have hurt him.  I am one of those people who has been very laid back/low stress about everything w/this pregnancy though, so maybe I'm not a good one to ask if you are uber conservative?

  • I've thought about drinking NA beer, but decided that .5% alcohol is too much for me to feel comfortable with in the first tri.  There are some good microbrew NA beers, which I might try once I'm late in 2nd tri.

Seriously. Having 2 NA Beers is like having a few sips of regular beer.

  • We're having a football party this weekend and I am not even thinking about that.  I will just fill my usual big cup with water and sip on that all day.  I don't know if anyone will even notice.  It is opening weekend of football so people will be focused on football and food!

  • NA beer still has alcohol in it, that is a personal choice you need to make. Or call up your doctor and ask them. If you have a trader Joes near you their NA wine has no alcohol in it at all, you can do a switch-a-roo into another bottle so it doesn't say NA wine, just wash out the bottle!

umm no your wrong there is usually .4-.5% alcohol in a bottle, drink 4 of them and its 2% alcohol which is about 1/2 a bottle of regular beer! There are not enough studies either way during pregnancy so most people and doctors err on the side of caution b/c they don't know how much alcohol can cause issues they most say NO ALCOHOL at all, specially in 1st tri when so much developing is going on!

I'm pretty sure thats why she didn't say that 4 bottles of NA beer = bread or OJ

  • I never knew about bread. Here is an interesting article (it starts on the bottome right corner)

Right, which is why you proving that 4 bottoles = 2% didn't make much sense. Disprove the content of bread if thats your point.

If a bottle of NA beer contains .5% alcohol and you drink 4 bottles then you just ingested roughly 2% alcohol. This is why you get more drunk with the more alcohol you drink, your body can't process the liquid fast enough so the alcohol level in your body rises and you get tispy then drunk. its simple math, I don't understand what your point is. My point is that there is alcohol in beer and the more your drink it the more harm you can do to your unborn child.

Trust me, I understand the math. I was simply pointing out that you math was not in response to what you quoted. She talked about one beer and one thing of bread. If you are trying to disprove her, then look at that relationship. Of COURSE the more you drink the more alcohol you consume. I would hope everyone realizes that. If not, I'm worried about people's mental capacities.

You know what? Ignore me. I'm nit picking (sp?). I'm a logic dork.
