What is your favorite? Does your LO have a favorite?

Re: Poll :: Your favorite lullaby to sing to LO?

  • I've always sung "Baby Mine" from Dumbo to Anna. Her fav changes. Right now it's ABC and "Tomorrow" from Annie.

  • I sing Riley The Bean Trees right before bed each night as we dress him in his PJs. He also loves

Riley, Riley, tell me your answer true, I'm 1/2 crazy all for the love of you, it won't be a fancy marraige, i can't afford a carriage but you'll look sweet, upon the seat, of a bicycle built for two.

  • ha ha latley logan starts to cry when i sing, either he know its his bed time song or I suck!!

but i like to sing go to sleep, or kumbaya

  • I sing him a song called Rock-A-Bye every night - it was the first song on a lullaby CD I bought when he was born and I fell in love with it. He asks for his song at nap and bedtime.

M's favorite songs aren't lullabies though, they're the silly ones that have hand movements or bouncing to go along with them :-)

  • My go-to songs are Beautiful Boy (John Lennon) and Maxwell's Silver Hammer.

DH sings that song from Jaws... "I had a drink about and hour ago and it went straight to my head..."

  • We always have sung Frere Jacques (and a personalized version "Caden LastName" with different words) to Caden before putting him down for bed.  For Alana I made up a personalized song for her to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.  So now I sing that and the original for Alana every night before putting her down.  So I would say those are my favs.  And hopefully theirs. :)
  • I am usually singing fun/daytime/happy songs... not night time ones... that's sorta DH's territory.  But my fav... "Rise and Shine".  ;)

lol, Bicycle Built for Two, circa 1920.  I know just about every song 1890 - 1940, perk of the job.  My fav lullaby is Tularolarula, that is spelled so wrong, also known as the irish lullaby.

Ack!!  I wish I knew more of the words to that song.  I only know it from that movie... with Richard Dryfus... soooooo good... soooooo sad.  That song make me cry!!  But I do sing the main chorus over and over to Andrew.

  • Close your eyes,

    Have no fear,

    The monsters gone,
He's on the run and your daddy's here,

    Beautiful,
    Beautiful, beautiful,
    Beautiful Boy,

    Before you go to sleep,
    Say a little prayer,
    Every day in every way,
    It's getting better and better,

    Beautiful,
    Beautiful, beautiful,
    Beautiful Boy,

Out on the ocean sailing away,
    I can hardly wait,
To see you to come of age,
    But I guess we'll both,
    Just have to be patient,
Yes it's a long way to go,
    But in the meantime,

    Before you cross the street,
    Take my hand,
Life is just what happens to you,
While your busy making other plans,

    Beautiful,
    Beautiful, beautiful,
    Beautiful Boy,
    Darling,
    Darling,
    Darling Sean.

((But I change it to "Mommy's here"! LOL))

  • I don't have a standard, however, I make up songs.  It's kind of funny, I really don't think about it.  I sing what comes to my head and once in a while I'm inspired by a spanish lullaby.  I have to say it cracks DH up.
  • I sing "Sweet Baby James", an Allison Krauss song called 'evermore" from the Sandra Boynton book "Dog Train".  I also sing "Leavin on a Jet Place" and Alex totally follows the directions (kiss me and smile for me...)  too cute.

In fact... once, I asked him if he was going to ahve sweet dreams, and he said yes.  I asked him what he was going to dream about and he said "The days to come." (from Jet Plane:  "Dream about the days to come, when I won't have to leave alone...")

    My little philosopher!

I have a million that I love... lol I'm always singing!

    Boomdeada (sp?)

Boomdeada, boomdeada, boomdeada ohhhhhhhhhhh I love the mountains, I love the rolling hills, I love the flowers and the daffodils, I love the fireside, when all the lights are low Boomdeada, boomdeada, boomdeada ohhhhhhhhhhh

he requests Booahh (what he calls it) every night. I started singing it to him when he was 6 months or so. My mom used to sing it to me.

I know that song!!!  Love it!!

  • "I Will" by the Beatles, "Three Little Birds" Bob Marley, and I hum "Greensleeves"
  • "Dites-moi" from South Pacific.  I learned in my high school french class and it is really the only french I remember.  But it has a nice melody and I usually follow it up with You are my Sunshine.

  • Right now the boys' favorites are the songs from Peter Pan...You can Fly and 2nd star from the right (the beginning song).
  • Our favorites are "My Girl" and "You Are My Sunshine"

She also likes "Rock A Bye Baby", but inserting family names and silly words like spaghetti, hamburger and stinky. Crazy girl! Stick out tongue

  • The little boy I babysit periodically likes it when I sing him Un Elefante se Balanceaba (the only song I can sing in spanish) and he LOVES Christmas songs...and really likes when I sing Douce Nuit (french version of silent night).

Oddly...most of the songs I know by heart are in different languages because when I was a little kid my mom would sing to me in french and then when I was a youth director the kids taught me some spanish songs....they have all seemed to stick with me.

So my guess is I will sing those songs for MM. =)

  • Pretty standard stuff - I need to learn more!

You are my sunshine, Mary had a little lamb, Itsy bitsy spider, Twinkle twinkle....she usually asks for one of these by name, lol.

  • I have a variety :)

When Fudgie was an infant, I just couldn't stand the lullaby's. I use to sing 'Ring of Fire' by Johnny Cash :)

Then I discovered 'Down to the River to Pray' by Allison Krauss (from the 'O' Brother...' soundtrack). This song is amazing. I'd play it in the car and he would just calm down and go quiet. Whether I played the song or sang it myself, he would calm down. Amazing! I still sing it to this day, esp if he is upset about something.

Now I sing 'Soo-La-Li', Spider Man (yep), Twinkle Twinkle, Irish Ways and Molly Malone. Some combination every night. Sometimes I sing 'Take me out to the Ball Game'...and Fudgie sings along, so damn cute!

Oh...and if I had a better memory and could get through it without crying, I'd sing 'Beautiful Boy' every night (and dh's name is Sean Smile). Also, 'Over the Rainbow' by Iz.

I have a whole playlist I call 'Beautiful Boy' which is a combo of lullaby's and songs that inspire me as a mom :)

Ok, enough out of me. I love singing to Fudgie :)

Life is a roller coaster, enjoy it!

  • I mainly sing him my sorority lullabies (sorry kid!).  I also sing him James Taylor's "Rockaby Sweet Baby James" but change James to Dane, which works well!

*sigh* I walked down the aisle to "I Will"

  • Oh my...my songs run the gamut!  My absolute fav is the one I made up to the tune of On Top of Old Smokey....it's about 13 verses now. I had to type them up because I'm sure one day I'll forget them all...I call it Ryan's song.  Lately he doesn't want to hear it though and requests Rock-a-bye baby...which starts out as a normal version and ends up with all kinds of silly replacements.

I also love love love Soo-La-Li....it's a staple in the car when I want Ryan to sleep.

For wake up songs I sing a version of Good Morning from Singin in the Rain and a made up version of Are you Sleeping?  And sometimes a silly song that DH's g'ma used to sing to him about "It's time to get up".

I love singing and I'm such a bad singer....but "they" alwasy said to sing your heart out that your child doesn't care so I do.  And I haven't stopped and it's my favorite thing to do.

Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

  • I love this thread.

When we're getting ready for bed, we sing the silly favorites - "Itsy Bitsy Spider", "ABC's", "Skitamerinkidinkidink", things with movements to keep her hands busy while we get a diaper on her.

When it's time to lay down, we read now, but when I do sing to her I sing: "Sweet Baby James", "Godspeed" or "Lullaby" (both Dixie Chicks songs), and now a made-up song "Mama Loves Me" to the tune of "Jesus Loves Me."

We also sing in the morning. When we open her blinds we sing "Good Day Sunshine". This one is particularly cute because she smiles and tries to sing along now. "Gooo D So Shiii!"

  • For bedtime: "I gave my love a cherry", Schoolhouse Rock's "preamble to the Constitution" (cuz I'm a geek) and "Stay Awake" from Mary Poppins.

In the daytime I tend to sing 60s war protest songs for some reason. "Blowin' in the wind", "where have all the flowers gone", "if I had a hammer", etc. Or campfire songs like "on top of spaghetti".

Not sure which is T's fave; he just likes being sung to. :-)
