Babies: 0 - 3 Months

carters sizes?

My baby is due next month, and obviously I have no idea how big she's going to be. I have a whole bunch of Carter's newborn outfits. When I've been in the stores, and to the outlets, I noticed they don't have 0-3 sizes....it goes newborn, and the next size up is 3 months. Does that mean that their newborn size is equivalent to 0-3 months?

I ask because I washed the clothes, THEN thought about whether they'd fit or not. Stupid mistake?

Re: carters sizes?

  • 3 month is the same as 0-3 months.  I wondered that too at first!

  • Carters fit my dd the best she is long and lean and can still fit in a few nb born outfits. and yes i believe carters run nb=0-3  3=3-6 6=6-9 and so on
  • they might be slightly bigger than 0-3 but you can use them. FWIW, I never was able to use the few newborn items I bought...she is 5 wks now and the 3 mo. stuff is no longer that big. She has gained 3 lbs already (was 7lb 9oz at birth), plus with a bulky diaper on....it fits fine so I would buy it.
  • all our clothes for DS are strictly carters. my little man was 6 pounds at birth and the newborns fit a little large. all his 0-3 are put up until he gets a little beefier.

as far as your "stupid mistake" comment...i'd say no, b/c your LO will grow into them.

That's how I thought they fit DD.  They run a little small if you think of them like that, but if you take it the other way 3=0-3 then they run a little big.  So they are inbetween IMO. If that makes any sense.

  • If you look at the weight ranges and not the #s size 3 is 0-3 months, 6 is 3-6, etc...compare to the Carter's Just One Year brand at Target.  NB fits up to roughly 10# but for us DD outgrew the length before the weight.  I considered cutting off some of the onesie bottoms to make t-shirts but in the end decided that was too hard for just a few more weeks wear.

Get some onesies extenders i have some because A is long and i know they will outgrow her because of length.

I thought about it but we had so few NB outfits I wanted to keep her in that I just sort of gave up on that.  I wish I could "wish" things like onesie extenders, and the baby socks I need (not to mention eggs, milk and bread) into existence in my house LOL -- for OP though, get some onesie extenders now while you have the time!

I'll  take that wish ability as well. lol

  • I noticed that NB is NB and 3 months is 0-3... or at least I think so...   Before LO was born I though 3 months was 3-6... but his 3 months stuff fit him when he was like a month old like all the other 0-3s did.
  • Carters has the weights on the tags I found that the sizes didnt match up month wise so just check the weight

This is not my experience at all, if I waited to use them as the next size up then my son would never get to wear his Carters stuff.  Maybe because I have a super long boy (23 inches at birth) but for me it's NB, then 0-3 = 3, 3-6 = 6, 6-9 = 9 which has always seemed to be the consensus up until now.
