Okay i've been back to work for almost a month and had a nice freezer stash of pumped milk stored up from the summer. Well it has quickly been used up b/c i'm just not pumping enough to keep up with his demand. I've had my dad (my babysitter) give him formula to supplement. He takes a bottle of ebm just fine but refuses formula and just will not eat if that is offered. Today he only ate 5oz of ebm btw 6am and 5pm! He just will not drink the formula...
He isn't eating much solids, he just isn't interested. Anyone experience this? How long did it take your dc to get used to formula?
Re: bf baby refuses formula and i'm running out of milk!
Does he seem hungry? On occassion, DS will not want a bottle and just waits until I get home from work. He will drink a little bit (maybe 6 oz) in the almost 10 hours I am gone. He is thriving though and DH says he doesn't fuss or act hungry. He may just want you. If he is gaining and doesn't seem hungry or frustrated, I would give it more time.
yeah we had the bottle issue at first but now he will take it just fine. He will down a bottle of bm like a champ. But when it's formula he turns his head away and acts like it is the nastiest thing ever. Formula isn't bad, just bought it...and it's similac.
Can you go up on your pumping (before work or before bed or the weekends) to make up the difference.
Have you tried another kind of formula?
It does smell a lot different, so i'm sure it tastes a lot different too.
He is sttn and I should totally get my lazy butt up and pump before bed. I just hate pumping...But my baby must eat so I must pump.
I've read that Similac is the most like bm and have only tried 2 different similac cans.. I think he's just being a little stinker...
One of my friends had this same problem and her pedi recommened the Nestle Goodstart brand formula. He said it is a bit sweeter like breast milk. Her DS took to it just fine.
Good luck!

We had the same problems with DD - took bottles of EBM fine, but not the formula ones.
For us it really was the brand of formula, as they all taste a bit different. She hated Similac and Good Start - but for whatever reason likes Enfamil just fine.
I'd just try a few different ones (we also had no tummy issues switching her between brands) until you find one that works!
Good luck

Same thing happened with us (twins). We ended up using Similac Organic - which has very little odor - and mixed a tiny bit in with BM. Then gradually decreased the BM and increased the formula. This took about a month, but it eventually worked.
