C-section Mamas... incision question

I am 4 wks post partum today.... I have had absolutely no problems at all with my incision. It was never uncomfortable, etc.

The past few days I've noticed a wee bit of "discharge" from it... a little bit of light brown/yelllow sticky goo if you will. A very small amount. My DH has inspected it and it has not seperated at all. Normal? Is it from healing?

I'm wondering if it's my underwear rubbing near the incision at night... (sometimes the granny panties flip down during sleep..) Did this happen to anyone this long after surgery? I've wanted to "air it out" for awhile at night.. but was still wearing pads so this seems impossible.

Just curious if this happened to anyone else? Thinking of calling the Dr. tomorrow...

TIA

Re: C-section Mamas... incision question

  • I had no issues at all like that. My sister did however they left part of a suture (sp) in. I would just call your dr in the am and continue to air it out. I might try some peroxide on a qtip.

  • Hmm.. this did not happen to me and after four weeks, that doesnt sound right.  I'd call the doc in the morning.. if its yellow and sticky it sounds like pus?  Could be a little infection.

  • No oozing but I did feel rubbing and some discomfort ?so I would change before anything could get angry...
  • Call your doctor!  I am having a HUGE issue with my c-section incision (3 months later.)  I hope that won't be your case, but you don't want to mess around with it.  I bet it is nothing that huge, but you should just double check.
  • Mine did, but a part of it had opened. It ended up being an issue with the last stitch, so I had it removed and then cauterized. Use a hair dryer on cool setting to dry it out - and keep it clean. You might want to wear maternity underwear so that the waist band is above the incision.

  • It's normal...it's serous fluid; It's like when you put a bandaid on a cut, when you pull it off, there is a little bit of yellow fluid...that's how it heals! Unless it is red, warm, painful or has pus, it's fine! It's probably from your underwear rubbing against it. Put a pad (a regular maxi-pad) over the incision to protect/pad it from your underwear rubbing against it.

  • i had this right after i got home from the hospital- i freaked out and called OB- they had me come in just to make sure (i saw nurse practitioner and she didn't really have an answer for me since my incision looked great)- i had sutchers (sp?) that dissolved so that wasn''t an issue- she said it looked like some of the stuff they put on you when you are in surgery (forget the name)

she just had me clean it with peroxide and guaze 3x a day- i would def call doc just to go get it checked out- you never know

  • Mine didn't.  I'd call the doc, just to be on the safe side.

  • Mine did that. It was fine.  I did try and keep it dry and clean so at night I did a quick wash and cool blow dry and changed undies.
