Babies: 0 - 3 Months

When does baby start to grab things?

When does a baby usually start grabbing or holding things?  Every baby is different but wasn't sure on the average age that most babies hold onto things. We have toys (rattles, cubes, etc.) that states from 0+ but DS kind of looks at it with a blank stare. Does your LO "play" with toys yet? TIA

  • DD is just starting to grab at and actually be able to hold onto things, without us placing them in her hands, Her aim is still bad, but she gets ahold of them sometimes.

  • we're now consistently grabbing at things and holding them, with aim and intent. prior to this it was swatting with some luck at times.

i think at four or five mos. they can manipulate items in their hands...

  • DD just started to grab at the toys hanging from her play gym this week... she got ahold of one and held it for a few seconds before she let go. She's definitely noticing toys more often now... so we're having lots of fun playing with her now!

  • She would hold toys in her hand if I placed them there at about 2.5 months. She started grabbing them closer to 3 months.
