Teachers, how are you avoiding illness?

Today was my first day back and one kid puked and had a fever and the nurse just sent her back to me. We also have one who is hospitalized with h1n1. I am terrified I am going to give M the flu because MIL reminds me daily that she will get it and die and it will be my fault! Teachers, how are you keeping your LO healthy?

  • Wow your MIL is a peach!

I am a second grade teacher and go back in November.  I am very worried about this as well.  And most of the population I teach are children from Mexico.  I'm sure I'll take simple precautions, keeping antibacterial hand wash on my desk, not touching the kids...but it's hard and almost unavoidable. Try not too worry too much about it.

  • I'm not a teacher, but I do run a before and after school program for kids.  I have had two kids in the last week come down with h1n1.  It really freaks me out.  I just make sure to wash my hands constantly or sanitize and not touch my eyes or mouth.  Whenever I get home, the first thing I do is wash my hands and if possible, change my clothes before holding my LO.
  • I'm worried too b/c DH is a teacher. He goes back to work this week. I guess the only thing we can do is be careful, wash hands faithfully and pray. I am making him take his shirt off when he gets home every day. I'm not sure how much that will help though.

  • I wash my hands frequently. And I teach preschool and anytime the kids wipe their nose, pick their nose, stick their fingers in their nose or down their pants, they need to use sanitizer. This helps keep everyone healthy!
