Sears or JcPenny Pics?

I live in a small town (which makes me sad since we just moved from a big city last year...anyway) the only picture studios here are Walmart, JCPenny and Sears. Do you think JCPenny or Sears does a better job? I have absolutely no idea. Back home my friends all went to different places than these, so I'm lost.

  • In my experience, JC Penny.

  • Have you considered doing them yourself? I bet you could save a LOT of money and make much cuter pics this way! Big Smile
  • we just had dd's 3 month pics done at jc penneys...it went great !!   partly because she was laughing the whole time so we got great shots...their backgrounds arent the snazziest, but as long as you have a cute outfit on, that will really make the shots..the photographer we had was great, dd certainly loved her..and we got sooo many pics for a great price and took a little over a week for them to come in...we'll definetly use jc penneys again !
  • I haven't been to penny's, but our sears pics turned out fantastic! They were actually MUCH better than I thought they would be! To some extent, it may depend on your photographer moreso than the studio. Go with a coupon for a free sitting fee...you always have the option not to buy. I think you can actually get a coupon on the sears portrait studio website if you don't already have one.

  • Ask around.  It really depends on the photographer.  We went to Sears on a whim (I usually do the pics myself).

Here are a few of the ones we ended up with:

Notice that you can see how his mouth looks all puckered?  Yeah they took his paci from him and snapped the shot.

Looks so comfortable huh?  Love the frill. *Note the sarcasm*

    Seriously?

Yeah...so not impressed, and neither was he:

I'll stick to doing photos myself from now on. lol  Definitely ask around, but the Picture People always do a great job.  Even Walmart was better than this experience I had at Sears.  Walmart also has larger packages.  Sears is $7.99 a sheet, Walmart is about that for a whole package.

  • MIL and SIL like the collages that Sears has.  I haven't used them but they were telling me I should check them out.

Sears also has a $7.99 package, but you can only get one pose.

Anyway, it varies from location to location.  We have gone to Sears, but I am considering trying Penny's.  Our Sears just changed their manager and all the good photographers left with him.  The new manager has terrible customer service (I have seen her yelling at a customer) and the new photographers really aren't that great (think same poses over and over...they have sat my DD in the same chair in the same pose for the last 2 sessions and they tried it again at her last one).

My sister loved Sears and moved.  IN her new town Sears was bad, so was Penny's, so she ended up at Picture People

I would totally do it by myself, but I go to Sears for the better camera.  It also means I can entertain the children and get them to smile as the photographer snaps the shots.

  • We went to JCP for DD's 1 month pics. I loved how they came out. You can get coupons off their website (I got one for no sitting fees + free 10x13 + $3.99 sheets).

    Here's a few samples:

  • Ditto JC Penney. No sitting fee, free 8x10, and $3.99 per sheet for as many poses as I wanted. They turned out great!
