Babies: 0 - 3 Months

IUD... uh oh

I had my IUD inserted at 6 weeks pp. Am now 5.5 months pp. Got my period August 29th, ended Sept. 2nd or 3rd. It was pretty normal.

DH and I were having sex two nights ago when he felt the string for my IUD. I've never felt the string that low. Pretty sure it is slipping out.

The last time we had sex was August 22nd. Since I already had my period after that, I shouldn't be worried about pregnancy if this IUD is actually falling out? Right? Right???

I have an appointment on Thursday.

  • Um, no, the last time you had sex was 2 nights ago.

  • No, no, it wasn't even close lol. It was like he got 1/2 way up and felt the strings and that was it. Yes, sex, technically. But not really.

  • It's normal to feel up to 2" of the string depending on whether your cervix is high or low at that particular moment.  I wouldn't worry.
  • I feel like such an idiot. My obgyn told me I needed to check the strings after each period. I didn't do it; in fact, I haven't checked at all since I had it inserted. It never crossed my mind. I'm sure going to be checking it regularly now, though!

  • I know this is probably bad, but I had one and never felt for the strings.  Ever.  Nothing ever happened with it until I got it taken out two years later.

Ditto.  Only I had it in a little over 3 years and had it removed to TTC.  My husband use to be able to feel them every once in a while when we had sex.  We have yet to have sex since I got it put back in since he is deployed.  If you are that freaked, call your OB and have them check the position.  Though, I am sure it is fine since that can happen.  Also, if the strings are long enough, they can cut them down some.
