Hey ladies,
I had an emergency c-section 2 1/2 weeks ago. Since probably last week I've noticed a large lump on my left side right above the incision. Directly underneath my incision I can feel a thin line of firm scar tissue, and this feels similar, except its above the incision, protrudes more, and is very tender. Its about 3/4 inch thick and 2-3 inches long.
I've looked online and its sounds like either an adhesion, which is kind of scar tissue gone wrong, or maybe a small hernia? Either one of those and it sounds like I'll be back in for more surgery
Or maybe I've got it all wrong and its normal and will go away. I'm calling the doc tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone has had something like this or knows anything about it.
TIA!
Re: C-section recovery Q...this seems bad...
I don't know that you would be back in for surgery exactly but I also felt a lump close to my incision. It ended up being a mass so-to-speak of blood and fluid that caused my incision to open up about an inch and a half wide on the left side. DH had to pack the wound for about three weeks before it completely closed up.
I would call your doctor and ask them to take a look at your incision and to feel where you are feeling the lump.
It's not uncommon to have lumpy spots that'll smooth themselves out over time. I've had them both times.
Is your incision hot to the touch, red, weepy, or inflamed though? Those would be signs that something is up for sure.
I'd definitely see what the doc says though - the fact that it's very tender is something to have checked out.
Good luck!
Could be a hematoma.
My OB said they're common. I had a huge one. It's a gathering of blood and needs to either be absorbed back into the body or released (ie, through the incision).
I had to have my incision reopened in a few spots to release the blood and some clots. It was disgusting and I bled for two more weeks from my incision. It was very tender to the touch and somewhat a hard lump under the skin.
If you start to run a fever, then it could be an infection.
I had a small bump and slight tenderness, but nothing painful. It went away.
If it's painful, I wonder if it could be an infection... if you're running a fever (even if it's low grade), that could be a sign of infection.
Good luck with the doc tomorrow. I hope it's nothing!
