DD went through a phase like that at about the same age, she very quickly grew out of it, and yes it sounds awful but if we knew she was clean and full we let her cry a little bit, not for more than 5 minutes but we slowly stretched the time out and she finally grew out of it.
Pedi said it was probably some seperation anxiety mixed with them not being able to figure out what emotion they are feeling yet so they get confused.
