tummy sleepers

how did you make the decision to let LO sleep like that? my guy just loves it and sleeps so good and quiet on his tummy. He hates his back and rolls around and grunts to no end and is so restless when sleeping like that. I dont know what the big deal is about tummy sleeping-thats the only way i slept as a baby, almost 30 years ago and DH and his 6 bros and sis' all slept like that...the risk of sids would have been the same now as it was then...it just seems unnecessary to make LO suffer...im thinking of getting the angel care monitor...is that what people use for tummy sleeping or no?

    The risk of SIDS may have been the same, but sleeping on the back lowers that risk.    I only let DD sleep on her tummy during the day when I'm right there and that's the only way to calm her.    I just rock her a little at night and lay her down on her back and she seems to sleep well that way - it just takes a little longer to get her back to sleep.

    DS made the decision for us.  Once he started rolling over from back to belly, he would constantly roll onto his belly to sleep.  We tried flipping him back but he would just roll over again lol!  I think it's fine once they have good upper body/head/neck control.  I would definitely recommend the Angel Care monitor if you're concerned and especially if you LO can't roll over yet.  Our neighbor has it and LOVES it!

    Brendan made the decision for us as well. He hates his back and when I try he just rolls to his tummy.

    When she could roll onto her belly we let her stay like that.

    My DD has been sleeping on her tummy since about 3 weeks old.  She startled herself awake constantly on her back.  I switched her at first to just her naps during the day.  Eventually we switched her at night too.  I was so worried about the risk of SIDS too but you have to do what feels right for you.  I have researched that having a ceiling fan circulating helps reduce SIDS risk.  My DD also had pretty good head control and was able to lift her head and move it from side to side when she was on her tummy when sleeping.  We don't have the angelcare monitor.  Do what feels right!

    My LO has been sleeping on his tummy since he was about 3 weeks old. He hates sleeping on his back.. Like the others said DO WHAT FEELS RIGHT!

    My baby slept on his back for the first two months.  BUT he threw fits about going back to sleep at night -- Unless I let him sleep on my chest where he would sleep for hours. (In his bed on his back he would sleep maybe one or two hours) When I tried sleeping him on his belly for the first time for a nap, he slept for two hours... NOT 20 minutes!  I asked my doctor about it, she admitted her kids slept on their stomaches, and that I had to do what was right for us.  He sleeps MUCH better now.

    Same story for us - but I think I started at 2 weeks...if not earlier!  She was picking her head up from the get-go & we don't have any of the other SIDS risk issues so I felt comfortable with it.  I know there is more of a risk, but we are all happier and I'm comfortable that she is in good control.  We don't have that monitor, we have the summer video monitor.
