baby shower ideas- what is something that you loved about yours?

I am throwing a shower for a friend on Saturday.  I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas on a game or something we can do.  Any decoration ideas?  I do have some stufrf but I was just seeing if there was any more cute ideas out there......

Re: baby shower ideas- what is something that you loved about yours?

  • I LOOOVED the diaper cake at the shower my SILs threw for me. It was adorable. They decorated it with pacifiers and ribbon. Adorable.

Also loved the cupcake tree with about five different kinds of cupcakes. To die for!!!

We didn't play any games, just did a mocktail mingling hour, lunch and gifts. It was GGGRREEAAATTT!!!

  • my sister passed around this stuffed puupy with a marker for guests to sign and leave a short message for J.
  • I've done board books instead of cards, and the moms always love them.  Since it is late, maybe get a classic children book (or my newest fave Someday) and have everyone sign for mom and baby with a sweet message.
  • I loved that there were no games.

  • That we didn't spend a lot of time on games.  No one was into them...people would rather show up, talk a little bit, watch you open gifts (even this is boring for most - most my guests quit watching halfway), and be on their way.

The outdoor Showers seem to be the best.  I've gone to one where they just played normal, non baby related games like horsehoes.

  • We played Gift Bingo, which was fun. My shower was soon after another shower with many of the same people, and some of the (cough, rude, cough) guests protested against playing any of the games the hostess had prepared, but everyone enjoyed the bingo. It was chill enough to not seem like forced participation, but it was engaging enough to keep people entertained during the gift opening. It actually got really competitive! They gave gifts for the first bingo, the most filled squares (or first blackout, which didn't happen), and the fewest filled squares.

  • My sister had the ladies go around and say one piece of advice on parenting.  Then I picked my 3 favorite and they got small prizes.  I had someone write it all down so I can remember what they said.  It was sweet, I got things like read to them every night, tell them you love them every day. . .
  • My friends used my bedding pattern as a theme for the shower.  They used photoshop so my invitations matched and had a poem on one side of the invite.  They framed it for the babies room.  The theme was jungle animals so they had them blown up life size to decorate the venue.
  • Oh, and "momosas" are great! Orange juice and sparkling cider. But we also had plenty of beer and wine ;)

  • They played games at my shower (luckily I didn't have to play because I was on bed rest) and they had prizes for the winner of the games.  Each time they gave out a prize, I also got a prize.  My prizes were packages of thank you cards and a memory book.  I really liked getting packages of thank you cards because that meant I didn't have to worry about getting them myself!

  • I was blessed to have more than one shower and there were things I loved at each of them.

Work shower - Diaper cake.  One of my coworkers made it and it was absolutely adorable.  I still haven't dismantled it yet because I need to take pictures of it for his scrapbook.

Church Shower - Centerpieces were blocks with an "E" on two sides and pictures of him on the other two sides and then wooden blocks on top.  They were very cute!

Friend Shower - This shower was by far my favorite.  It was at a cozy bed & breakfast.  We played games (bottle chugging contest, guess number of jelly beans in the bottle, and a few more) and each of the winners got to pick out a prize.  My mom and friend ordered wall art from LTD Commodites and they were all themed around home and family.  Each winner got to pick one.  It worked out that no one won more than once and I think everyone picked a prize and got to take something home with them.  We had sandwiches and fruit and veggies for dinner, ice cream cake for dessert.  It was just a wonderful evening.

  • There was a table with baby photos of me & DH, a cupcake tower and everyone filled out a paper with questions guessing the babies sex (I was on Team Green), weight, length, hair or no hair, who baby will look like, etc.  There was also a section to leave a message for the baby & draw a little picture.  I made it into a keepsake book.  It's super cute!

  • "Door Prize" for the guests -- the person who guesses the closest, without going over, how much the basket and all of it's contents costs wins.  It is filled with either blue or pink stuff (I guess yellow or green if it's a surprise).  It's amazing how much weird colored pink or blue stuff you can find.  (pink tennis balls, painter's tape, light bulbs, strawberry cereal, swim noodle, pepto bismol, bubble yum, toilet paper/tissues, chapstick, vitamin water, etc. - get creative)
  • We had guests write their name and address on an envelope (for thank you cards) and drew one for the door prize. This was nice because it was easier to do the thank you cards with that part already done.

I hate games so we did not have any. At one shower everyone wrote a letter to Carter for him to read on his 16th birthday and make a "time capsule" with things from that day. I thought that was fun

  • My mom and sisters bought different baby related scrapbook pages and decorations and everyone made a page for a scrapbook for DD.  They stuck a small tag on each page that says "Made with love by:"  It's nice because no matter how old DD gets, she will always have something special from her family members.
  • Mine was a co-ed BBQ and we had a great time!  My favorite part was the onesies that everyone decorated for LO in different sizes up to 18 mos.  It's been fun putting them on her.
