Babies: 0 - 3 Months

What has been the worst baby related advice someone has given you?

Mine: That my baby wasn't sleeping at night because I held him too much. I was advised to just put him down in his bassinet whether he cried or not. "If you keep spoiling him like that he's going to be impossible in the future".Yeah, right.

  • Someone told me to add cereal to a bottle of BM to make the baby sleep longer. This was at 3 weeks.  She did that with her baby and she STTN around 3 months.  My LO goes at least 6 hours a night and sometimes 9.  I think hes doing fine with out the cereal

  • Try to make DS cry more because it's good for his lungs!!

  • Worst?

Hands down:  The lady who suggested that, rather than dabbing at 9 mo DS's runny nose with tissues, I try licking him clean.

She'd read some research that indicated that baby rats who were licked more often had more chemical receptors for chemicals that made them less stressed.  She said, since she began licking her own 6 mo baby, she'd noticed he had become a much happier, mellower child.

    We're sticking with kleenex here.

LMAO!!!  What's even funnier is that I do this!  I move DS in a clockwise motion while he is sitting to burp him and joke about stirring and not shaking the baby.

Worst advice was to just let DD cry and learn to put herself to sleep.  Uh, DD was 2wks old at the time.

I've had this one, followed by "well, don't come crying to me when he gets an infection"... uhhh, ok?

Also, at 3 weeks, give the baby a bottle of JUICE because he's THIRSTY!!!

Oh, and that the car seat is unnecessarily safe and if LO is crying in the car, we should just carry him.

I can't believe these people were allowed to have their own kids!

OMG.. True, and baby rats who are licked by their mothers also turn out to be better parents, but the difference is noticed in adults. LMAO @ the whole "lick baby today for less fussing tomorrow" idea!!

I've read that there is something to that research, but I dunno that I'll be licking my LO any time soon either.

  • Never shake a baby, but remember, if you shake them more than 3 times you are just playing with them.

  • Not really advice, but every time DD spits out the pacifier my grandma says it's because it's a lot of work for nothing! And watch the flames come, but feeding on demand did not work for LO. She would snack every hour. As soon as we started an EASY routine, she took full feedings and napped way better.

  • My mother is constantly putting layers on my DS.  She says it's better for him to be warm than cold.  Actually, no it's not mom.  Have you heard of a thing called SIDS?  Yeah...
  • i can not stand when people say we should give the baby formula to help sttn. he is only 3months and sleeps usually 8-4 eat 4-7 which seems pretty good to me!
