I keep reading how many babies are eating 4-6 oz in one feeding. My LO pretty much maxes out at 3 oz. He is not on a set schedule for feeding, but probably eats every 3 hours or so. Is he eating enough? We can't weigh him every day but he did go from 5 lbs 12 oz at birth to 10 lbs 3 oz at his 2 month apt. I don't know how I would get more food into him....
Re: FF 2 month old, is he eating enough?
As long as he is gaining weight and your pedi is happy then dont worry about it. My DS was 9 pounds at birth and stayed at 4oz until he was 4 months old. My pedi said to always fill the bottle with one extra oz just in case they are still hungry that feeding.?
You might also want to think about going to a med flow nipple.?
Sounds identical to my baby! Was your LO early? Mine was 3 weeks early so you actually look at the fact that they really are not 2 months from some standpoints.
Mine also takes 3 ounces and sometimes that is even a struggle!
Ditto. Don't stress out. Some babies are just smaller. Also, ditto the others re the nipple flow -- DS ate a lot more when I upgraded the nipple flow. So look for signs of time to move -- takes forever to eat, tends to fall asleep while feeding, you can see the nipple collapsing somewhat due to how hard he is sucking, etc. If he's doing fine with the flow he has, keep going. DD was only eating 3-4 oz around this stage so just because DS is a piggy doesn't mean I think he's abnormal or that a baby eating less is abnormal either. Kids are different.
DD -- 5YO
DS -- 3YO
My DS eats 3.5-4oz every 2 1/2-3 hours and he's just over 2 months. We tried once to give him 5 oz. at his last feeding before bed because some people say "give them another ounce to hold them over longer" but he spat up a LOT of that because it was too much. He can't handle more than 4oz. right now at a time.
As long as your LO is gaining weight and happy (not whining for more), take it -- at least your can of formula is lasting longer than those who eat more!
