does your dc have a fall/winter wardrobe?

I'm freaking out! ginny has nothing to wear now that summer is over. there is no shortage of sleeveless dresses, skirts, t-shirts, shorts, and sandals but nada for cool weather. we even need pjs! and a coat! and socks!... and...

the bummer is, some of her very sweet summer outfits she literally only wore once.

  • I feel ya!  I keep on checking for clearance stuff, but it's all summer.  I think a trip to the outlet malls is in my future.  I have a couple of Hartstrings dresses she didn't wear because it's now too cold.

  • At the end of a season I always buy for next year so we have plenty of winter stuff. I actually have too much for this winter because I have two boxes of handme downs too. The only thing Riley needs are shoes and pjs.
  • I'm with you on having tons of sweet summer outfits that have been hardly worn.  Everyone told me not to buy too many 0-3 clothes because she would fly through them so everyone got us summer 3-6 clothes as shower gifts and she is just now being able to wear some of her 3-6 clothes.  There are so many cute things hanging there untouched!  We are starting to build a fall/winter wardrobe but I'm not sure how fast she is going to grow so I'm scared to buy too much and end up where we are right now with clothes not being worn.

  • We're going to the outlets on Thursday for this very reason! I did get some stuff for DS at yard sales this summer, I just need to figure out what fits him and what doesn't first.
  • same here - Angie is between sizes and we are between seasons so i don't want to buy any 9 month b/c it won't fit for long, but 12 month is still huge.

  • We hit up the outlets this past weekend and got Eli a couple coats, some sweaters, sweatpants, etc.  We did have some because I exchanged some of his stuff.

I've made a point of keeping tags on things until I'm sure he is going to wear them.  I just exchanged some summer things with the receipts and traded it for winter things.  Eli has a bunch of stuff that he's only worn a couple of times as well, I usually sell some of it on Ebay though.

  • Yes, because the Gap was having a sale and she fits their clothes well.  SInce we were going to Sweden and Denmark, I wanted her to have some warmer clothes.

The problem is that most of it is fall....not too heavy, not too light.  However, i spent way too much money and fear she won't get use out of the clothes.

  • I started buying fall/winter stuff for dd.  I don't EVER pay full price for clothes for her so I'm constatly watching for sales.

  • I feel your pain on not being able to wear all of their cute clothes!  I feel the need to change Owen a million times on weekends because I want him to wear those cute things before he grows out of them!

I love Once Upon A Child for this reason though!  I had a work conference last week and I went to one in a new town and got O 3 or 4 outfits with the tags still on them for fall/winter!

  • DS has 50 kabillion summer outfits, a lot of which he won't wear.  NOTHING for when the weather gets colder.  I'm hoping the weather stays really warm thru the end of Sept.   He has no pants, no long sleeves, nada.   I see a baby clothes shopping trip in my near future.

  • I just went to carters yesterday to get him play clothes for daycare but he still needs some sweaters and a coat.  ughh.
  • No clue if we have enough, but I've definitely made a dent in DDs' wardrobes.  My new thing is to hit consignment sales...not just the stores, but when churches, etc have the big sales.  I bought most of DDs's summer stuff at one sale for something like $35.  If you're only spending $1-$2 on an outfit, it doesn't hurt too much if they only wear it a couple times!

  • I just got DS 3 pairs of pants, and 7 long sleeve shirts, plus two pairs of long sleeve/pant Pjs.  He needs a pair of winter shoes but is otherwise mostly set.  :)  I think I'll sew up a few simple lounge pants too for days at home from my stash of old shirts.

I think his coat from last year still fits and if not it isn't something we need now anyway -- we live in sunny CA and it rarely gets that cold.

  • I'm freakin' out too.  I'm actually set for pjs (found them @ clearance last spring) but have next to nothing for every day.  My fingers are crossed for our local MoMs sale.
  • I just bought 3 huge bags of winter clothes for DD at the big Goodwill sale last Saturday - such cute things!

  • I actually have quite a few things. will defnitely need coats though.  i'm sad that summer is coming to an end because of the boys bad reflux i didn't get to put them in some of their cute summer outfits. i just had them in oneses all summer. wasn't worth the effort to put something nice one when they were just going to spit up all over it.

  • I went to once upon a child this weekend and got some great deals on long sleeve shirts and jeans also some shoes that still were new. Are you near any second hand shop things like that?  Hear yah on the cute summmer outfits I am so sad that somethings haven't been worn more then once and one super cute one never b/c it hasn't been super hot here but a day or two.
  • I'm having this same panic attack right now.  I have to buy EVERYTHING for DD.  Thank goodness my BFF gives me clothes from her two sons, so DS is taken care of.  Ugh.
