MIL won't babysit LO (Vent)

My MIL has decided she will not babysit LO this Saturday so we can go to the U2 concert in Chicago. She's decided that she thinks it's not a good idea because we'll be gone from LO from 5pm-1am. She thinks it's too long and although I have 10 bottles of BM pumped already for her she thinks she'd starve to death. So now we're trying desperately to find a replacement but I don't want to leave her with just anyone. Ugh!

  • I hate when MIL backs out of things she has agreed to!!! Hopefully you have someone else in your area you trust.

  • did she say she would and back out?  if so- that sucks.  If she never agreed in the 1st place it's her right to say no and have strong opinions (even though it still sucks)

She originally said yes (we asked her before LO even arrived because we wouldn't have spent all this money on tickets!)

  • I will probably get flamed for this but your baby is 3 weeks old--why would you want to leave her to go to a concert? I don't blame MIL for not feeling comfortable...

We left DS overnight with my parents around the same age. It was nice to sleep, and we were totally ready to take on the world after that.

No flames, but I totally understand why someone would want to do that.

  • We'd be picking her up at 1am--she wouldn't be staying overnight.

I knew it wouldn't take long for someone to flame me for wanting a night out with DH. He wanted to go to this concert for his birthday and I wanted him to have what he wanted.

  • Give me a break, ladies.  She's leaving her with her GRANDPARENTS, not some random!

We HAD to leave LO with my parents over night a couple weeks ago because I ended up with a uterine infection and DH had to work.  I cried and cried.  But I would rather have her be with grandparents or my sister than anyone else!

And honestly....how often do you get to see U2?!  Its time to call in a favor!

There is nothing at all wrong with wanting a night out with your husband, even if your daughter is only 3 weeks old. Happy parents are good parents, and if you need a night out then take it! Hope you can find someone to watch your LO, and have a great time at U2!
