1st Trimester

When can you hear heartbeat on doppler?

I have a doctor's appointment this week when I'll be almost 11 weeks.  Should they be able to hear the heartbeat on the doppler?  I'm not getting an ultrasound so I want some reassurance that baby is ok.

  • I think you can hear on doppler starting at 9 weeks (according to What to Expect...)

  • I heard mine on doppler at 9w1d.  She said she was surprised to hear it so early though.  I haven't had an ultrasound yet either.

  • They heard my lil' bean's hb at 11 weeks, you have a shot, but don't sweat it if you can't.  My cousin couldn't until she was a little past 12...
  • I heard the little peanut last Thurday loud and clear, and I was 7 weeks and 7 days when I went!

  • With my first pregnancy, they didn't try the doppler at my 10 week appointment, but I did get to hear it at 14 weeks.

This time, I heard it via u/s at 8 weeks. I would be surprised if pp heard it at 7 weeks with the doppler.

  • By 11 weeks I think there's a good chance of you hearing the hb, but with my DS the dr tried at 11 weeks and couldn't find it.  Needless to say, I worried for the next 4 weeks until my next appt, but all was well!
