Measuring a toddler is hard

I was trying to measure A so I could get the right size costume. She seems really tall compared to other babies her age, but I measured her as 31". Isn't that pretty average? I could have sworn she was over 30" at her 1yr appt....

Re: Measuring a toddler is hard

  • It is REALLY hard, I was trying to get Sophia's height for an outfit my mom is making and the kid would not stay still. At her 15 month appt she was 30.5" but Eric and I kept getting 32" when we were measuring, which seems crazy.

  • Sophia is definitely taller than A. Maybe they really are 31 and 32". They both seem tall to me.

  • C just turned 1 and as of Thursday he was 31 1/2 inches tall if that gives you any idea. HTH
  • A is taller than C, right? I don't know if I saw them stand right next to each other....

  • I'm pretty sure. C is tall for his age though, but yeah I'm pretty sure A was taller.

No, I knew C was tall for his age, but A is 3 months older, kwim? And I was pretty sure she was a little taller and if C measured 31 1/2", I must have screwed up measuring her, which was the original concern ;)

  • At our pedi's office... they lay the baby/ toddler down and measure that way.

Maybe you can lay her down on a sheet of old wrapping paper or possible on the side walk and mark with chalk or a pen. Then measure that distance?

  • we have one of those cutesy growth chart things and measure the Monster every month, and each month it gets harder and harder to get her to hold still for it.  We've tried getting her to lay down like at the pedi's office and that's just a nightmare.  Anyway, she's 32.5" and she's almost 18months...no idea if that's average, but she seems really tall to us because we're both pretty short.
