2nd Trimester

Depressed about weight gain

I am 15 weeks today with my second pregnancy. I gained A LOT of weight with my first and really wanted to do better this time. I have really trying to monitor what I eat and make good choices. From month 2 to 3 I only gained 1 lb and was so happy thinking this would be different. However I have been weighing myself every week and so far I have gained 5 lbs this month! I started crying this morning because I don't know what else to do. I am not snacking late at night. I only have fast food once every 2 weeks and am laying off the ice cream this time and still all this weight.

Re: Depressed about weight gain

  • What does your doctor say? DId he/she give you a recommended amount for the duration of your pregnancy? If you are eating healthy, then you should be okay. Your baby needs it! As long as it is not coming from junk food.

  • Talk to your doctor if you feel you need more help with this. Also try googling "the pregnancy diet," which is not a diet but just a list of the foods you should be eating. You do need to eat when you're hungry, but making good choices can help you keep weight gain to a reasonable level. Getting some moderate exercise may help too.

Try to remember that weight gain isn't a straight upward momentum - you will have some growth spurts along the way and no one month should feel like a sentence.

Sounds like you're doing everything you need to do.  Your body will gain what it needs to gain.  I've gained 33lbs at this point and my Dr says it's just fine.

  • From what you've posted, it looks like you're doing well.  A 5lb gain might be partially due to water retention too.

Just focus on eating healthy and let your doc worry about the rest.

I'm gonna echo this. You will gain weight when pregnant. Don't get down on yourself!

I was just telling DH this weekend that I feel really horrible about the way I look right not, and I haven't even gained any weight! The bloating is really getting to me.

Talk to your Dr. about this, and follow his/her recommendations.

  • I am right there with you.

I was a mother freaking moose by the time I delivered J and was hell bent on not doing that again.

I finally got back to my pp weight and was toned thanks to kickboxing when I ended up pregnant again.

I started both pregnancies at 140lbs. So far with this one I have gained 16lbs, which is considered dead on average but I am still so paranoid I'll still pack on the pounds.

I gave up all sodas/juices and only have water and one cup of coffee a day. (I think giving up coke was almost as hard as giving up cigarettes.) Also, obviously sweets, no eating at night, no cheeseburgers no matter how badly I want them - etc.

And that is enough to make me crazy - because the weight keeps creeping on and there are days I just want to say F' it  if I'm getting huge again anyway I'm going down with a five guys burger and a chocolate shake.

Anyway - I feel your pain. No advice but at least you aren't alone!
