Recommend a book to read before bed (other than "Goodnight Moon")

Is something wrong with me for not really liking the book "Goodnight Moon"? I've read it to DD a few nights and for some reason, I just don't think it's all that great. I also have "Goodnight Gorilla" which has cute pictures but not very many words.

Do you have any other recommendations for books to read before bed? I prefer something that comes in a board book since DD is so young. TIA.

  • Goodnight Gorilla (not many words there either, but it's amusing)

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

Also, at that age, DS would sit through an entire Dr. Seuss book.  The good ones aren't in board book form, but go for it while you can (before she really starts grabbing pages)!  He particularly liked the brightly colored ones.

ETA:  Any Sandra Boynton book.  DS loves Belly Button Book, Opposites, and The Going to Bed Book

  • My son loves Goodnight Moon, Hungry Caterpillar, anything with pictures of babies, Dr. Seuss, anything by Sandra Boynton, Llama Llama. Pirdy Books has some he loves- A is for Apple, Z is for zoo, F is for farm.  They have a cat and Dog book too.

  • Time For Bed by Mem Fox

DD loves it.  It's very catchy and she knows when the book is over it's time for bed.  DH and I jokingly recite the pages to each other randomly.  Yes, we're weird.  :)

  • DD loves Pajama Time by Sandra Boyton.

This book makes me cry every time I read it! I bought the companion book that's a baby's first year book.

We read The Going to Bed Book, Is Your Mama a Llama?, Moo, Bah, Lalala, Five Little Monkeys, Brown Bear, Brown Bear...

  • My DD really liked "The Little Fur Family" when she was that age.

  • It's easier to make up words to Gorilla when they are older and you can ask them to pick things out.  Maggie loves it.

We also read: Brown Bear, Brown Bear

  • I LOVE Sandra Boynton...such cute little books. The Going to Bed Book and Pajama Time are great. Last night I read Guess How Much I Love You and just cried and cried. Nigel really seemed like he was listening.
  • Ditto Sandra Boynton and Dr. Seuss.  And Good Night Gorilla - exactly what pp said, we just make up words.  We like Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, any of the Curious George stories (those have a lot of words though, so I tend to summarize the narrative - great pictures).
Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.
  • We like Sleep Tight Seseame Street, Runaway Bunny, and anything by Jan Brett.  I tend to read a different story every night. It's fun now that Xander is more interested in the book as well as trying to turn and eat the pages.

Wow, thanks everyone for all of the great book titles! I'm definitely going to check and see if some of these titles are available on the book swap that I use.

I went on Amazon and read the excerpt of "On the Night You were Born" and started tearing up right away. So I think that's definitely one that I must get! I think I'm feeling so sentimental because I have to go back to work on Monday Sad

I take advantage of the longer books while DS will sit for them and can't grab the pages.

We have a few Sandra Boynton - and for some reason, I just don't get it. They don't really have a storyline. Kids seem to love those though!
