Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Formula fed :(

I'm bummed... I only pumped 9oz this morning, so I had to have my mom give LO one 6oz bottle of formula for the first time today.  I feel so bad :( I didn't want to have to give him formula, at least not yet.  I feel like a failure.  I'm still pumping and hoping I can some what keep up.  The more BM I can give him, the better, I think.

Re: Formula fed :(

  • you're not a failure.

    don't give up yet.

    have you tried fenugreek?

  • So mix the BM with the formula and make it up later. Formula is just fine for a LO. You have to give yourself some slack.

  • You pumped 9 oz this morning and are disappointed?  How much do you normally pump in a morning?

  • Don't feel too bad! First of all, you have done a lot for your baby already. Second, formula fed babies are healthy, too! As long as you feed your baby, he will be great!

    this!!!!

  • Yes, a little is better than none!

I was upset when we had to switch DD from BM to formula, but it was all selfish reasons, because she is soo much happier and more satisfied on formula.

4 months of BM is something to be very proud of!

  • I normally pump 12 oz in the mornings cause I haven't pumped since about 5 or 6 the night before.  It really upsets me, I feel like I'm letting him down.  I never thought of mixing the two! Maybe I'll have mom try that if this happens again.  Thanks
  • Consider yourself lucky your pumping out 9oz!  I can only get a max of 2 oz. now.

DS has been eff for about 2 weeks, and I nurse and pump very casually and never stress anymore.  Be grateful for what your are providing

  • I'm impressed with 4 months of EBF.  You should be proud of yourself.  Your LO will be just perfect! :)
  • Even in my glory days I never pumped 9 oz.

  • I got 9 oz for the first time ever this morning and couldn't have been more excited. Anyways, if you have gone 4 months and are just now giving formula for the first time, thats very impressive. And yes, any BM is better then none.

I wish I could pump ANYTHING. My milk disappeared a week ago and so far nothing is bringing it back. I was only up to 4oz. but I was so proud of myself. Hope the Reglan works

Sorry you have to give formula, though, I understand the disappointment.

  • The most I've ever pumped is 8 oz., and that's when I'm uncomfortably engorged!  9 oz. in one sitting is amazing!

Ditto this.  And I would have killed to be able to pump 9oz's total for an entire day!  The most I could ever get was maaaaybe 4oz's total.

I'm borderline annoyed with this post even though I know thats not fair.  Just because I physically couldnt do it doesnt mean you arent allowed to be upset.  ::deep breaths:: Wink

Oh, and also ditto on the Fenugreek!

  • i did a small amount of formula yesterday as well. LO ate on bbs for an hour, spit it all up and was still starving. He had an oz of formula and was fast asleep for over 2 hours!!! At least he was happy even if it was FF. Oh, and i would crap my pants if i got 9oz...i only get 1-2 per side!!!!! thats amazing!

Seriously! Just divide up what you've got and add a little formula to make up the rest.

  • haha, I've had supply issues and have been EP the past half day to give myself a mental break from trying to BF. This morning I was able to pump about 1 1/2 oz combined and I was over the moon excited! I know it's a different situation as DD is primarily FF and I add in whatever I can, but I'd also be ecstatic if I could BF for 4 months. I'm hoping to make it through the week! You already have done a great job, and I've come to realize we have to deal with what we're given.
