Your baby's nighttime routine

Hi all!

I'm reading things about nighttime routines and it seems that most of your nighttime routines start around seven or eight. Our precious LO likes to eat around 7 or 8 and then stays up until 9 or 10, feeds again and settles in for the night (well, until 2:30 or so then through until early morning).

This night owl routine is great for her- not so great for finding some moments alone with DH.  I'm wondering what you do to get your LOs to settle down and decide to sleep. What's your bedtime routine like? When do you start it?

If this is just her internal clock, I can deal with it, but I'd love to try for some evening alone time (even five minutes!). Thoughts?

  • Move everything up a little.  I put my DD down around 7:30 or 8 after starting the eat, play, sleep routine at 6:00ish.  Then I dream feed her around 10.

  • DS takes a 1-2 hour nap around 7-8 then we change diaper, swaddle, feed, give paci, turn on nature sounds, then I lay him down around 10-10:30.  He STTN until 8-9am, but he's an exception.  It's not common to see LO's STTN this young.
  • I get home at 7:30, I BF her, bath and down by 9, she's out til 6am. But at 1 month, you can't expect a whole lot of cooperation from her I would think.Tongue Tied

  • DD moved her bedtime up on her own...she started around the same time as your LO and eventually started falling asleep earlier and earlier.

Now her "routine" is after dinner around 7 DH gives her a bath and does her lotion and PJs, then a bottle around 7:30 and she's usually in her crib drowsy but awake a little after 8.

    Good luck!

  • DD usually takes a late nap (falls asleep on the car ride home from grandmas) and sleeps until around 6 or 630pm. She nurses and then we play for about an hour or so. She goes in the bath around 815pm and I always do a long bath and try to make it relaxing for her. Then lotion and jammies. At this point, she starts getting really fussy and throwing hunger cues around. She then nurses to sleep, usually within 10-20 minutes. She wakes usually once a night, somewhere between 2am and 4am, for a feeding. We started this routine around 3 weeks. It was until about 6 weeks though that DD started reliably going to sleep after the bath.
