The name Paisley - thoughts?

What are opinions on the name Paisley?  I know it is a little unusual but I really like it and it has been climbing in the social security charts for the past two years.  Middle name will be Noelle.  Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Re: The name Paisley - thoughts?

  • sorry, NMS.  I'm really traditional.

  • I think it's cute, and it could possibly grow on me. It's personally not for me, but I like it in theory

It reminds me however, of someone very delicate, nerdy, pale and fragile

  • I can't picture someone introducing themselves as Paisley and keeping a straight face.
  • To me it will always be a pattern, not a name. Sorry, it is nms.

  • Don't do it! This comes from someone who dislikes paisley patterns though.

    Correction: Rudely put...but anyway...

I don't hate it...but maybe it could be a middle name instead? What about Noelle Paisley?

  • I personally don't care for it, but I think it goes well with Noelle.

  • I think it's really cute! And it goes well with Noelle. Another similar option, I taught a student named Isley (long i) and I've always loved her name.

  • Slightly preferable to Houndstooth, Floral, and other frumpy things you can do to a shirt.
  • I think it's cute and goes really well with Noelle.  But, I tend to like names like Ainsley, Kenzie, Maisey, and Tinsley and I fully understand that most people don't.  And, I like paisley patterns.....  guess I'm weird.
  • All I can think of is the pattern. Sorry, nms at all!

  • I love hearing everyone's thoughts!  I'm still not dissuaded, so that might be my answer to myself.  There was a character in a Judy Blume book (Summer Sisters) named Paisley so to me it's now more a name than a pattern but I can understand not being able to shake the association.
  • I immediately thought of Brad Paisley then the pattern. I really don't like it at all.
  • there used to a be a woman on the parenting board whose DD was named Paisley.

I like it - but I am VERY picky about how common a name can be.  I wouldn't consider anything above #500 on the SSA list.

  • I used to like it a long time ago but it sounds redneck to me now because of the singer.
  • I actually think it's adorable! And let me tell you, that name is so NMS.

  • It is super cute :)  Don't let all this talk of Brad and patterns dissuade you.  You could call her Lee for short :)

A similar name that I like for a girl is Payton (also spelled Peyton I think).

     Good luck deciding!

  • My sister is due 7 weeks after me, she's naming her DD Paisley. It's cute, I wouldn't pick it for my own kid, but I think it's unique in a good way.

  • I knew a girl about 3-4 years older than me when I was in Jr. High named Paisley. I thought it was a beautiful and different name then and I still do. Also the was pretty and athletic and smart... I wanted to be just like her! Paisley Noelle sounds nice together too.Smile

She will hear that a lot..

  • A friend just named her daughter Paisley Raye and i think it is adorable. Paisley Noelle Is beautiful.......go for it!!
  • My dog's name is Paisley, so obviously I like it. Be prepared for a lot of "oh, you named her after Brad!" Or they point out that she (obviously) is not paisley patterned. I named my dog after the Scotish city, but unfortunately, no one ever thinks of that. My only real concern (because people will make associations with any name) with using it for a person is that I don't think it grows well, but that's my opinion. I can't imagine meeting someone who's the CEO of a company or a supreme court justice named Paisley.
