3rd Trimester

Scared- could this be listeriosis?

At about 6pm today I had a small hamburger and when I was half way done I noticed it was pink in the middle. I stopped eating but became worried. Then I forgot about it. At 10.30pm today I felt hot and when to the kitchen for a glass of water, after that I got sick and threw up. I feel much better now but then I started thinking about the pink hamburger and I am worried this could be a listeriosis sympton. Anyway, I'll cal lmy doctor 1st hour in the morning and see what they say. Just wondering if this happened to any of you...

Re: Scared- could this be listeriosis?

  • I would think it'd take more than 4 hours to settle in and give you symptoms, but I'm no Dr and have no real clue. If you're not feeling well tomorrow, call your Dr and tell them your concerns. Otherwise, maybe it was just your body's way of getting rid of something it knew it shouldnt' have.

  • I had a medium rare steak lastnight for dinner.

I would think you are ok. But if you are still not feeling well tomorrow morning call the Dr. It could be something else.

So glad to know I'm not the only one who can't stomach well done steak. It just ruins it.

  • Yes, I will keep an eye on my symptons. RIght now I feel fine. And I've been reading that symptons occur after 48 hours.

Overdone steak makes me want to cry. It's a crime.

  • I don't follow eating rules Embarrassed I've eaten a lot of questionable things and so far me and this baby are doing great

Sometimes "morning sickness" comes back in the 3rd tri but I would deff. call if you still feel sick tomorrow or if it gets worse.

Tell this to my mother. She thinks A1 can cure an overcooked steak. I think a steak done right doesn't need any A1!

  • I love medium rare steak, but can't handle ground beef unless it is well done. Something about the texture. I've had steak a couple times during pregnancy, but ordered it medium well and from a very reputable place. I can't do well done steak, so nasty

  • When I was pg with DD and in my 3rd trimester I got sick several times.  The vomiting would usually come anywhere from 2-6 hours after eating.  And usually right before throwing up I would feel really miserable.  Often I would have a really bad stomach ache.

My doctor told me that if it went away after throwing up then it was probably just that my food "disagreed" with me.  I know on one occassion I felt like I had eaten too much until I threw up about 4 hours later.

Definitely call your doctor, but I don't think it would have much to do with listeria.

  • it probably just didn't agree with you..a pink hamburger shouldn't give you any real problems-hope you feel better!

  • I think the danger of raw/undercooked meat has more to do with parasites than listeriosis.  I've been told that parasites do not cross the placenta and the dangers have more to do with the mother such as dehydration and weight loss which can then affect the baby.  I'm not a doctor, but this is what I've heard.  It makes me feel better about ordering steak medium rather than well done if I know parasites can't cross the placenta.  Your stomach probably just got upset.  GL.
  • Thanks for the responses!I am feeling good this morning, called my doctor's office and I am mwaiting for him to call me back.
