Moms with LOs who have reflux

How did you know that your LO had reflux? What "symptoms" did your LO have to let you know to talk with your pediatrician? I've heard that LOs SCREAM after every feeding and tend to spit up a lot. ?DD doesn't scream after EVERY feeding, but some. ?She doesn't spit up A LOT, but occasionally. ?She just fell asleep during a feeding so I put her in her bed (without getting a burp) and she kind of woke up and started talking. ?Then she started fussing and so I picked her up and got a HUGE burp followed by practically her WHOLE bottle. ?Does this sound like your LO??

Re: Moms with LOs who have reflux

  • DD has Silent Reflux meaning she doesn't spit up.  She just seemed like a very angry baby all the time.  She was super fussy, would pull off and scream at the breast, grunted constantly, had major rear end gas and "wet" sounding burps.  My Pedi suggested this may be her problem but didn't do anything about it.  I gave it a week or so then looked it up and noticed all the symptoms were hers.  I made an appointment to talk to him about it and he agreed that is what is sounds like.  She has been on Prevacid ever since (July 6th) and is a much happier baby.

  • my lo didn't spit up, but he screamed after every feeding, as well as wimpering while at the breast during the feedings. he would not settle down after feeding and I could hear a gulping sound when we laid him flat on his back....which woke him up....so he never slept unless he was upright (slept in bouncy chair)

  • DD was really fussy all the time, and constantly wanted to nurse (pedi said the milk may have been soothing her throat as she was drinking) She was also spitting up a lot, but not after every feeding. At times she seemed uncomfortable while nursing, just really squirmy, and grunted a lot..be she still wanted to eat.

When we went for 2 mth checkup pedi said her throat was really red, and prescribed zantac...we tried it for about 3 weeks but she hated the taste and spit half of it out, so now she is on prevacid...and feeling much better!!

    Good Luck!

  • My oldest twin is like your baby.  Not an extreme case, but enough to be concerned about.
  • My DS gets upset after maybe 2-3 feedings a day.  Somedays are better than others.  He usually spits up a lot, but when he falls asleep while eating and doesn't give me a burp he usually keeps it all in.  My Doc prescribed prevacid, but I never filled it since it doesn't help with the spit up, and I don't think him getting upset 2 times a day is serious enough to be put on medication at 2 months old.  I have just tried to cut out some dairy and keep him upright after feedings.
