XP: BFP while on mini-pill?

I'm posting this on a few boards- just wondering about the actual effectiveness of this bc- my ob has me on it b/c I was bf-ing, but I've recently stopped. I'm wondering if I should switch methods of bc? Thanks for any feedback...

Re: XP: BFP while on mini-pill?

  • Are you still BFing? If not then I would have your dr put you back on a normal BC pill, but if you are still BFing isnt that the only kind they can give you?

  • I am not sure what your actual question is but it IS totally possible to get pregnant while on the mini-pill.  It MUST be taken at the same time each day in order for it to be effective.  If not then it is almost useless.
  • I was on the mini-pill when I got pregnant with this one.  Granted I didn't take it perfectly but I never took the regular pill perfectly either.

I would switch if I were you, i'm definately going to look at something else after this one is born  :)

  • My BFF did is and she is not knocked up.

I am a huge fan of the IUD. I used it for two years before trying. Wouldn't use anything else ever again.

  • The mini-pill while BF has a horrible effective rate. If you are counting on this to keep you from getting pregnant I'd substitute an additional method. Or try Mirena, an IUD/IUC that can be inserted instantly and removed just as easily should you change your mind.

If you are no longer breastfeeding obviously you need to be on a traditional method of b/c now.

  • no, i just stopped bf-ing @ 2 wks ago. I was hoping to stay away from the normal pil b/c of the estrogen- so I guess it's time to make an appt w/the ob!

  • My OB told me to call and switch BCP immediately after I stopped BF (we decided to TTC instead ;).

I want to say it's something like 70% effective if you're not BF. Not exactly sure but if you Google it you can find the exact percentage.

    CP 3/07
    BFP 5/07 - Kylie born 2/08.       BPF 2/09 - Alexandra born 10/09.
TTC since 8/13 - diagnosed difficulty conceiving due to LP defect. Took vitamin B and Vitex Berry to help lengthen.
BFP 2/14 - Missed M/C found at 8.5 weeks. D&C at 9w2d. Partial Molar Pregnancy.
    BFP 11/14
  • I guess I just wanted everyone to reply that it worked for them 100% and not to worry now that I've stopped bf-ing! LOL

I take it every day at 9:30 am- 99% of the time, so I'm kind of worried that maybe I need to switch bc methods...

My insurance includes Mirena and my doctor said that I have to wait until 10 weeks after I have the baby before they will insert it so I have to be on the mini-pill until then.

Unfortunately, my ins doesnt cover Mirena (or any other bc, for that matter!), so the pill was a more affordable option. The traditional estrogen-containing pill is not an option, however, due to my history of migraines and a family history of stroke and blood clots :(

  • yes you can if not taking correctly...that is why I quit. I filled my script once and read the insert and quit within a week. We just were very careful and used other methods. That is the only pill you can take while BF if not the others will dry you up....at least that is what my dr told me. good luck making that decision!

Did your doctor say why you had to wait 10 weeks?  I'm curious because after DS my doctor inserted mine at 7 weeks, and I"m wondering if things have changed in the two years since I got it, or if it's just different doctors.
