How many "meals" do you make a week?

The grocery post made me think about how often we actually cook dinners. We probably eat a dinner meal about 4x's/week. Every Friday is pizza, Sunday is dinner at my moms and there is at least 1 breakfast for dinner night.

How often do you have dinner type meals for dinner a week and do you work outside of the home?

  • I work outside the home.  I used to make dinner around 4/times a week, but now that I am pregnant I am lucky if I make one meal a week.  I have no appetite at all.  My DH is eating a lot of cereal and frozen meals.

  • It varies a lot. Until VERY recently (when I decided I really needed to cook more often) I only made about 2-3 dinners/week. If that. I love to cook, I just got into a rut. Plus, I get super lazy since there are about a hundred fantastic restaurants within walking distance. I'm trying to make 5 dinners a week during the school year. I SAH.
  • We usually make two big meals that will last us for 2 days (usually we will have something for dinner one night, then I'll have it for lunch the next day and we'll have leftovers for dinner that night).  Then we have one "easy" dinner of hamburgers on the grill, BLTs, or a breakfast, one night where we have pizza, and one night where we eat out.  I WAH.
  • Around 5-6 times. I work out of the home, and need a night or two off of cooking duty.

  • I work outside of the home three days a week.  I cook breakfast, pack lunches and cook dinner seven days a week.  Maybe once a week we will have leftovers, but those are usually used for lunches.

The crockpot is my best friend.

  • ok...i am the odd man out. I don't cook- not very good and never learned how. DH is a great cook though.

during the week, i eat frozen meals or a sandwich or something really easy. DH gets home at 8 and we aren't cooking then. we cook on the weekends sometimes- BBQ all summer or go out to dinner or order pizza.

i lived in NYC for 12 years and got in this habit.

  • We cook at home about 4-5 times a week depending on DH's schedule. We eat out or get takeout when we are both getting home late. DH, for the most part, does all of the cooking because he gets home before me.
  • We typically make 4 meals or so a week.  DH isn't working right now so sometimes he'll do the prep like marinating the meat or something.  I don't typically cook anything too elaborate--usually tacos, grilled chicken, stir fry, things like that.
  • I probably cook 5-6 meals a week. But, I use the word meal losely as they are usually very easy. Some nights we will have grilled cheese and soup, tuna melts, breakfast, etc. If I make a bigger meal where it takes longer to  cook, I like for there to be leftovers so we can eat for lunch the next day. I SAH so I make myself a sandwich or a frozen dinner if need be. I also use my crockpot frequently.

It really helps for me to plan out my menu. I try to plan a couple of meals to cook and then some easy ones for days when DD won't cooperate or I am tired. Like tomorow night I am going out after H gets home to meet a potential client. I will make some baked ziti to put in the oven before I leave so we can eat when I get back. Great for leftovers!
