Should I buy newborn sized clothes? I haven't really been purchasing them, mostly only 0-3 months.... Will it depend on LO's size at birth? I am so confused about how much and what sizes to buy!
My LO was 7#2oz, 19.75 inches at birth and wore NB sizes for 6 weeks! Some people think it's a waste, but I hated to see the 0-3 mos sizes hang off of him at the leg openings.
I used newborn and my DD was 8lbs she just now is growing out of them length wise because she was 21 inchs. I would buy a pack of newborn tee shirts the snap front kind and onsies most people get you gifts of clothing and usually or at least for me they were all newborn size.
I only bought a few newborn sized clothes and mostly 0-3 mos for the spring/summer when I had my DD. She ended up being 9 lbs. 1 oz. and only wore the newborn sizes for a couple weeks. Don't go too crazy with clothes because they grow so fast! My DD was wearing 6 mos clothes when she was 2 1/2 mos. old!
Our baby was supposed to be 8 pounds...she was just 5 when she was born. I was glad I bought newborn clothes, because she is going to be in them for awhile. (I actually had to have my mom go buy preemie clothes, because nothing fit until just the last few days.) I'd say buy a few onesies, just in case. There really is a difference between newborn and 0-3 mo.
0-3 were huge on DS at first. You definitely want to get some newborn. He weighed 8lb 3oz and he wore newborn clothes for 2 weeks...some he wore for a whole month (mostly Carter's).
Now as for diapers, he was only in newborns for a week and a half..
It does all depend on LO's size. DD was only 6 lbs 5 oz, and wore NB for at least 6 weeks. I did buy more and I got 2 outfits as gifts after she was born. I would but a pack of onsies and maybe an outfit or two and maybe 2 pairs of pajamas, and from there, wait and see. Do not take the tags off of everything and keep the reciepts, that way, you can return them.
My girl was 7lbs 12oz at birth and has been wearing NB clothes from the start. Some were actually a bit big on her. Just remember that Gerber runs small!
My LO was 8 lbs, 5 oz and measured 21-3/4" long at birth. He wore NB up to this week and now he's too long for them. Especially the Gerber clothes, which I find run a size smaller. The Carters are still good, though. I would get a few in NB size and then some in 0-3 months. LO already needs 3-6 months Gerber onesies.
Me: 44 DH: 42.
DS born healthy at 40 weeks 8/24/09.
TTC since then with no luck or ART.
Surprise BFP 8/6/14... MMC @ 8 weeks 4 days... Miss you everyday sweet baby angel.
You also won't want to buy anything if you are having a shower. You'll get plenty of clothes. There is such a thing as too many clothes for a baby. lol DS only wore half of his newborn stash. I agree, keep the tags on all but about 7 outfits.

This exactly!
But try to resist buying lots of clothes because that's what people will likely give you. And you can always send someone out for more NBs if you realize you don't have enough after your LO is here.

DD was 6lbs 10oz. and 19.5" at birth - she wore preemie for the first week or two and then mostly NB until she was about 11 weeks (she still wears a few NB sized things).
Ditto everyone's suggestion not to buy clothes - she had 3 showers (1 before she was born and 2 after and got almost all clothes at them!)
It all depends on the size of your baby, how they are built and the brand of the clothes too.
Emmy was 9lbs 7oz at birth, and none of the NB stuff fit her. The sleepers wouldn't even button! She will be 2 weeks tomorrow and even some of the 0-3 stuff isn't long enough. With the cloth diapers she needs more like 3-6 in sleepers/onesies.
definitely get some. right now my LO is in between NB and 0-3 but for about 3 weeks, he definitely needed his newborns. he was swimming in NBs the first week (he was 6 lb 7 oz). his tummy is the reason why he needs the 0-3s, but the leg openings are enormous on him. he is long enough though. not really sure how they decide on the measurements for sizes, b/c they don't seem to make sense to me.
My first was 8 pounds 6 ounces so really did not fit in the newborn so I did not buy them for my son because I thought he was going to be really big. He was 7 pounds and 5 ounces and the clothes I did have were so big so i had to go out and buy some NB clothes.

My Lo was 7lb 13oz at birth and 0-3mths were huge on her and are still a little big. She is still in the Gerber NB onesies (stretchy) but has outgrown the other nb stuff just now.
Definitely make sure you have some on hand, but be prepared to return them if need be. DD was 8lbs 3 oz (was down to 7lbs 6oz in 4 days though) and 20 1/4 in long and even most nb clothes are too big for her. Gerber do run small and she can wear NB through 3-6 mo in those onsies, but most other brands barely fit/ are a little too big.

My LO was 6 lbs 4 oz at birth, much smaller than I expected, and the NB sizes were actually too big for the first few weeks. I had to go out and buy a few more things because the 0-3 were huge on him. He wore the NB stuff for a good 4-5 weeks.
My DD is 4 weeks old and weighed 7 lbs. 4 oz and 20 inches long at birth - now weighs 7 lbs. 14 oz and is 21 inches and still cannot were any of her 0 - 3 months clothes. She even wiggles out of newborn pants.
DD was 10lb 13oz at birth. There was NO WAY she was squeezing into NB size. She wore 0-3 for a few weeks, and now is in 3-4mon at 2 months old. She wouldn't fit in the NB size diapers either. We had to go straight to size 1. She's in size 2's now.

Glad I'm not the only one! My DD has the outfit in your sig, too
My DD was 8 lb. 8 oz. and still wore NB for 6 weeks. Even then the 0-3 was still a bit too big, but I wanted to use them before she outgrew them! Just get a lot of onesies, they are definitely the most practical!
