just found out i'm Pregnant and w/o insurance....HELP

oh my... so i had a feeling for awhile, but wasn't for sure... so I took a test!!! I'm pregnant and now trying not to freak out cause my husband and I are w/o health insurance!!!! My husband had to switch jobs due to the economy a couple of months ago and our health insurance wasn't going to start for a couple more weeks... well now we need plan B. We make to much to get help from the gov. so that is out!

Other than Women, Infant and Children's does anyone in the area know of anywhere I can go????

I've heard of some hospital's offering a payment plan with all your visits included and labor, etc. But i don't know where to go???

Please if anyone has any information... please send it my way... thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I went with Trihealth Midwives you can use an OB with Good Samaritan hospital if you dont want a midwife. They have an OB contract that is 2,400 for prenatal, hospital birth with pain meds, and post partum. Im sure that there are many hospitals that offer these plans, you just have to call the office. Good luck! and Congrats!

  • From your post, it sounds like your insurance from your husband's job will kick in in a couple weeks, or am I reading that wrong?  If that is the case, can you just wait a couple weeks before you make your first appointment?  If you are only a few weeks along, you won't likely get an ultrasound and they will tell you to come back in a few weeks anyway.
  • hey thank you very much i will have to look into that. I'm still deciding on how I want to do the delivery. What did you do though for all of your checkup's, that's really my main concern right now??
  • no the insurance was suppose to kick in and be available to us. But I am now we believe 5 to 6 weeks along, so no insurance company is going to accept me!
  • Not sure exactly where in Ohio you are, but in the Cleveland area, there's "Amoung Women" which offers various free services.  Just had a friend use them & it was very helpful for her.  Good luck.
  • I always thought pregnancy could not be considered a pre-existing condition.
  • can you elect a cobra plan? also if its a group plan you should be fine

  • I'm in the same boat!!! I applied for Healthy Start. My fiance's insurance doesn't apply to me until about 2 months after we're married (3 months from now) and we're not even sure it will cover me, I might fall under "pre-existing condition". Having a plan B is always a good idea. Does anyone know what an average OB/GYN visit costs?

    6weeks today!

  • My SIL signed up with Kaiser when she was about 6/7 weeks pregnant. She then waited a few weeks to go to the OB. Her insurance covered her pregnancy. I dont think they can count pregnancy as a pre-existing condition and deny you coverage.

  •      I didn't have health insurance when I found out that I was pregnant. I called around to "Many" different insurance companies, and was told that it is not a "Pre-Existing" just by taking a home pregnancy test. It is how ever considered "Pre-Existing when it is confirmed by a doctor. So if your planning of purchasing insurance, I would wait to make  your first appointment. My doctor told me that they usually schedule appointments for the first visit at around 6 weeks, and the first altrasound is between 11-12 weeks. I hope this helps in anyway. Congrats on your pregnancy!
